Bandwagon? What is this?

A year is not so long to wait, writer. The journey of Thorin's Company will be continued before you know it.


I will not lie; I, too, anticipate seeing the splendour of my father's kingdom in the Greenwood. I only wish the dwarves might have traveled through in a time when the Necromancer's corruption had not blighted our land. Then all the world might have seen it at the height of it's beauty.

Perhaps not. But it is a year's time for our writers to better acquaint themselves with the histories of our people, is it not?

Our writers may better acquaint themselves any time they wish, Legolas. [In fact, Thranduil is already stuck in a game. While his mun is rereading The Silmarillion.]

Mine is remarkably reluctant to begin such an undertaking, lamenting our own family's lack of written history.

Has she never read the Unfinished Tales?

But once, long ago. She has it in her mind to collect and study all the works regarding Arda that she can before the second part of Thorin's journey is released.

[A gentle correction. Mostly he doesn't like feeling bad for Thorin. Or rather, admitting to feeling bad for Thorin. It really sucks when you share the "remnants of a lost society" thing with a dwarf, especially when the dwarf eventually re-establishes his lost society and you can only try.]

[Legolas bows his head in deference. He may not share all of Thranduil's views regarding dwarves, but he respects his lord and father all the same.]

To be fair, it has less to do with "ew dwarves" (especially since Thranduil has gained some respect for Thorin) and more to do with Bilbo being plain awesome. And it's called The Hobbit, isn't it?

The Elvenking still catches his son going into "yes man" mode and gives a mildly disapproving look, but does not comment on it.]

Still your mun feels some limit is placed upon her time to study, simply because you are set to appear in the next of these films?

Time limits provide motivation, though I believe she is more interested in you and our people than any appearance I might make.

[Thranduil gets a bit of gratification from that. Hey, some people are interested in his people and not just in his huge-ass elkdeermoose!]

Indeed. Provided they do not portray us as dour, fey folk, as they are wont to do in these films.

[The Elvenking is really very proud of the spirit his people show despite their circumstances, and is in fact very fond of high spirits in general. One reason he is never going to get along with someone like Thorin is because they are far too alike. He needs those high spirits, like Bilbo and indeed like Legolas, to balance his own.]

Already they have proven themselves better than the version which portrayed us as quite short and rather green.

[Legolas had spent a lot of his younger decades in awe of his father and his imposing presence before realising laughter and fun were not anathema to him.]

[Surely not. He hopes always that Legolas knew how very loved he was and still is. Legolas must indeed be one of the few who has seen unabashed joy in Thranduil's face--almost a family secret, in a way, as stoic as the Elvenking often is otherwise. Now that his children are grown, of course they see it less as they are often acting in an official capacity, but surely they have not forgotten.

Spare me the memory, but I must concede. At the very least, this version of myself has not worn wilted lettuce on his head.
