Wow you don't let anything stop you have a good time do you?

[This dragon however will be staying WAY, WAY, WAY out of the snow. Safty no likey the cold.]

Nope, nothin'! Ya gotta drop everythin' and go be in the snow, since it doesn't last long.

Why don't you come with me? I haven't shown you a good time yet.

No! No it's fine Dale!

I'll just stay here in the warmth!

[Anything but the snow. ANYTHING.]

Well th' fireplace is gonna be here permanently. Th' snow is only temporary.

Would ya come out an' see a snow sculpture? I could make a dragon!

[What strange talking creature thing is this? Thyme pads over to sniff at him curiously. It's fuzzier than a mouse.]

[Dale had to admit the sniffing was a bit ticklish. He flinched a bit but offered a chuckle and a smile in mirth.]

Well hi there kitty cat! I hope I don't smell like lunch...

[While he had rescued a kitten and some cats on occasion the anxiety of being around natural predators still applied.]

[Depends, are you tasty like lunch should be? Sniffsniffsniff...

Thyme lays down on her stomach in front of him, her tail swishing slowly back and forth. Her front paws reach to pull him closer, licking him almost motherly.]

[Dale smells like his favorite things- peanuts and chocolate. He was hoping Thyme wasn't terribly fond of either for food.

He was caught up in looking at the cat with interest, just greatly flustered when those paws came for him. There didn't appear to be outstretched claws involved so he just chuckled it off, albeit nervously.]

Or I could smell like I need a bath.

[He laid his ears flat and petted his head of hair into some semblance of order.]

[No, no no, all wrong. Thyme purrs, licking his hair flat. She's practiced at this, let her fix it!]

Er, okay! [He withdrew his hands steadily.] Do what ya need ta do. I'm jus' kinda 'tached to the way it is.

[With any luck she would keep treating him like a kitten and dismiss any notion of the chipmunk as prey.]

Did I rescue one 'a yer little ones, er somethin'? Yer bein' awful nice to me.

[She pauses in her licking, just looking down at him. Mildly interested but not enough to make him a plaything. (which is probably a good idea)]

[Dale was beginning to warm up to Thyme's sweet disposition, and produced a similarly sweet smile.]

Daww! You're such a nice kitty! Got a name, kitty cat?

[He peeked up at her timidly while leaning forward to find a collar or a pet tag of some sort.]

[Kitty cat has a black collar with a diamond pendant. On the back it says 'Thyme'. She thumps her tail, listening to him talk. She's never found a small furry thing that could talk before.]

Wow! Someone must really love you if they gave you this diamond as a tag!

[A small chuckle. He was starting to warm up to the pretty kitty.]

Well it's sure nice ta meet ya Thyme. My name's Dale.

[His smile had only gotten stronger as he patted his chest importantly.]

Gee, it really would be somethin' if I could keep you as a pet.

[Of course, the other Rangers would never let him keep a cat around. The tree would just be too cramped!]

[Another sniff to remember him by. Dale. What a funny furry creature he is.

Feeling playful, Thyme turns over onto her back, looking at him upside down.

Hi there.]

Upside down huh?

[He tucked his head a moment as he worked on a handstand, to look at her right-side up from the upside down. He amused himself with a soft chipmunk chuckling as he planted himself on his feet again.]

Do you like belly rubs Thyme?

[He gave her side a gentle scritching.]

Snow day, huh?

Yes sir! You bet!! Er-

-waait, don't I know you from somewheres?

[ grins ]

I don't know, do you?

[Dale is a bit slow, but he's not short on excitement nonetheless. So when he does recognize the guardian he was all grin and chuckle.]

You're that Jack Frost feller! You bring the snow right? I'd be real grateful if you stick around awhile, long enough fer me ta sculpt somethin' anyhow.

[Bearing in mind Dale wasn't very big, the sculpture would probably be similarly underwhelming.]

[ Oh Dale look how happy you've made Jack for recognizing him! He looks just like a kid at Christmastime, no pun intended. ]

Got it in one! Just for that, I'll bring you as much snow as you want, how's that sound?

[The chipmunk was faring quite happily too, having identified Jack quicker than he'd expected. Then again he hadn't expected Jack Frost himself to receive him so warmly (not where the snow day was concerned of course!)]

It sounds grrrreat! [Dale extended a diminutive hand.] Th' name's Dale. It's right nice ta meet ya, Mister Jack.

[ Jack crouches down and shakes Dale's hand with perfect seriousness, though Dale will feel the chill of his skin from the brief touch. ]

So you want to make a sculpture, huh? I know just the kind of snow for that.

[ He whips up a heavy wet snow, perfect for packing and holding its shape. ]

[Aaand cue a copious amount of excited chipmunk hollering!]

Snow sculpture, here I come!! [Dale was rolling up some snow post-haste, when he decided to entertain another snow activity entirely..]

You know what else this snow's good for? [He wheeled around, bouncing a snowball in the palm of his hand just before reeling it back and casting it towards Jack.]

Target practice! [Here's hoping he could start a snowball fight, or rather a game of nail the chipmunk.]

[ Jack gave a shout but it was half a laugh, letting the snowball hit him and scooping up a handful of the fresh snow to pack into a ball. ]

Ha! You're talking to the master of snowball fights!

You don't say? Well in that case, I don't have to stand still! [With that readied himself on his fours, wagging his tail in challenge.]

[ CHALLENGE ACCEPTED ]

You'd better not, or you'll be an easy target!

[ sends a snowball at Dale, but smaller than normal so if it hits, won't completely flatten him ]

[It wasn't exactly dodging, but Dale thought it would be fun to jump up and karate chop that snowball. The desired effect was to see it burst harmlessly around him but he just hit it with a dull thud, the snowball barring his view of Jack. He moved to stand on top of it and address Jack again.]

Aww... here, would you send another one my way? Make it smaller, I want to see if I can break it!

[ Jack obligingly scooped another handful together, this one about half the size of the last, and lobbed it towards Dale with a grin. ]

Don't forget the "hiyah!" this time!

[And 'hiyah!' he did, or at least about as threatening as a chipmunk could sound, cleaving a snowball in two. When it hit the ground in pieces it burst, covering Dale in powdery snow. He took a moment to shake off his fur before he hopped over to Jack.]

Did you see me?

[His tail was a blur now.]

Did I do it right?

[ Jack holds up a palm for Dale to high five! ]

That was great! Where'd you learn that?

[He returns Jack's high fives with enthusiasm and some light chuckling.]

Would'ya believe I learned how to do that by watchin' ninja movies on TV? Chip thinks that learning from TV is a waste of time, but I think I taught myself some things that could really be useful for crime-fighting and stuff.

Oh yeah! Chip and I are crime fighters!

As long as things can be learned from it, I don't think TV's that bad. Only when people stay inside all day instead of going outside is it a problem!

[ Jack looks suitably impressed. ]

Really? That's amazing, Dale.

[Dale was idly playing hackysack with a snowball.]

It's tough work and we hardly get a break, but it's always exciting and always rewarding!

[He tucked it in his palms and looked up to Jack again.]

I've always wanted to be a hero. Sorta like you're the hero of snow days!

It sounds a lot like being a Guardian.

I think no one could ask for a better hero.

[Jack has officially made Dale's day, he exhibited a tail wag that showed no signs of stopping as he tried to hide a bashful grin.]

Yeah!? Well, shucks, I- it means all the snow days in the world comin' from you.

What's your job like? All work or all play?

Honest truth! [ Jack draws an X over his chest. ]

The funny thing? They made play my work!

[Dale mirrors Jack's gesture of crossing his heart too, preparing himself for whatever story the Guardian was about to spin, he was sure of it.]

Me too, me too! Do you try to make people laugh and help them to be happy too?

That's my job on the team, I'm pretty good at it. I'm still learning how to do Rescue Ranger work like the others.

Do all Guardians play for work?

[ Jack settles down next to Dale. ]

That's right, as the Guardian of Fun it's my job to protect kids' ability to be... kids. To play whenever they want and not have to worry.

The other Guardians are a lot more... strict. That was one of the reasons I [ sheepishly ] kind of turned them down at first.

[Dale observes Jack with bright eyes, hearing about such an awesome job fills him with wonder.] That must be the best job in the world. If I could get away with it, I think I could be real good at playin' all day. Making people happy is better'n payment anyday...

Ya know, one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me was, 'The team needs you and your spirit.' I get down on myself a lot, I usually try to help people feel better when things get real tough and serious. Then they don't understand why I make myself th' fool, but I still take it serious! I take keeping spirits high seriously because it's what I do best.

Somehow or another, the team keeps me around. I'll bet that you are just what the Guardians need. Someone happy, an' with lots of energy! From what I've seen you have lots of it!

[ Jack grinned, rolling a little coin made of ice between his fingers as he listens to Dale. ]

The more we talk, the less I'm surprised why your team needs you around Dale.
