One must first build the foundations of a skill--and, before that, the muddiest, most basic foundations of these foundations.

And, honestly, do you think my own publications went to the presses unscathed? Lord, the editors--like harpies, my dear. Writing is a struggle from the outset, and I'd wager that's true for all writing, genre aside.

Well, the version of you from my day certainly posts all things without an editor. Which is too bad, as there are many things he says that would be better if he passed them by me first.

[After working out how to actually move the pages on the phone (touch screens! amazing!) Watson spends a couple minutes browsing through John's blog. It's so bizarre, everything so familiar but a world and an age apart.

Finally, he speaks.]

Well, I certainly won't disagree with that last statement. Though, if you focused more on the science and the method, you would probably find an easier time of getting things published.
