revisiting a muse for a little bit

It's been quite a while hasn't it, dear? About two months, I believe. Of course, you've been so busy, it must've gone by so quickly. I know that when I am researching, days can go by without me noticing. [a small chuckle.]

However, I think we both have time enough to spare for a spot of tea and a puzzle, perhaps even a chat with some friends. Just for old time's sake, hm?

Pardon the interruption, sir, as I acknowledge that I have no part in this, but I couldn't help but notice your mention of tea, and I was just in the process of seeking a place to enjoy a cup, myself. Might you be able to offer some suggestions?

[Aw yea.]

Don't worry, it's no interruption at all.

[The professor gives the prosecutor a polite smile and nod.] Oh, certainly. Would you rather have something relaxing or something more of a pick me up? I know quite a few brews that work wonders.

Well, I was in search of a place, but...I would be more than delighted to hear what you might have in mind to calm the nerves.

Oh, I see. Excuse me for the misunderstanding. I'm used to preparing a cup on the go during my travels, so I don't visit cafes often. Besides, I believe the best cup of tea is one that is home-brewed, Mr... Ah, I don't believe I caught your name, sir.

Well, I have some Oasis Berry here. [In his trunk, along with another teaset, puzzle books, and was once home to a chubby hamster...] Very calming, I think.

Ah, my apologies. Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth. And yours?

And I agree. 'Oasis Berry?' Why, I don't think I've ever heard of such a brew. What does it consist of?

Professor Hershel Layton. [He tips his hat in greeting.] However, I'm not sure how well the 'professor' title suits now. It feels as if I haven't been back at Gressenheller for ages...

Ah, I'm rambling. Layton is just fine for me. [Layton nods.] It's ingredients are Oasis Leaf and Brisk Berry. [He hums thoughtfully.] It's surprising, the different blends you can get with just these two ingredients. In fact, it makes for a wonderful puzzle, now that I think about it.

Well...yes! You are an acquaintance of Wright? I'm quite surprised he would mention me, if that is the case...Actually, I am not sure if I am to find that rather worrisome... [~~Very fine with me, I was thinking the same thing,, actually XD~~ ]

And here I thought myself to be quite well-versed when it comes to tea. But never, even in my extensive collection of brews, have I ever heard of any of those ingredients. Where might I come across them?

Pardon me, but...would you...happen to be the same 'Professor Layton' who occasionally assists Scotland Yard?

Yes, though, I admit not a friendly acquaintance at first. We were opponents, you could say, for a little while on a most peculiar trial. Though, we came to be on more friendly terms when I learned there was more to the mystery at hand than I first thought.

They seem to be popular in the villages surrounding London but no so much in the big city, so I'm not surprised they aren't very well-known. You might have to visit local stores to get the ingredients, unfortunately.

[Layton pulls on the brim of his hat.] I am. I stress the 'occasional' part of my assistance to Scotland Yard. I'm no detective. Simply a gentleman who cannot let a mystery go unsolved.

It is quite the pleasure of mine to make your acquaintance then, Professor. I've read about you in the London papers, but I've never thought I'd have the honour of meeting you.

'Opponents,' you say? I am quite curious to know how a man of your brilliance fared against the man with the seemingly endless reservoir of dumb luck...

This I am aware of, which makes it all the more intriguing.

Thank you. Really, the papers exaggerate. I'm more interested in getting the newest archeological findings on the front page than the unraveling of Paul's newest scheme.

Wright has an interesting technique. To be honest, my expertise in law is very limited, so I don't think I can judge it fairly, but he always seemed very adaptable to changing situations [read: able to bluff himself out of anything]. That made him quite formidable, but I think I fared well enough. Enough to almost get a guilty verdict. [Layton gives another thoughtful hum.] Maybe it was luck that helped him, too. In any case, I'm glad for it. It stopped what would've been the unfair prosecution of an innocent girl.

Oh? Do you mind if I ask how so?

Such is always the case with Wright. He continuously grasps at straws and yet, in the immense haystack of logical fallacies, he always seems to pick out the right one. [He emits a low, and short-lived chuckle of sorts. An amused, 'Hmph'] In any case, out of curiosity, how did you find yourself in the prosecutorial role being an archaeologist?

Indeed. You are no detective, as I am aware, and you make no hesitation in making that distinction. It takes a formidable champion of justice to endeavor to press on in uncovering certain truths devoid of the expectation of gain, to seek an answer simply because it beseeches to be discovered, and retaining one's humility in the process. From what I've gathered, you seek truth for the sake of seeking truth, and that, in my honest opinion, is what I find quite intriguing.

Do I count as a friend?

[Even knowing that this place can bring all types of people here, seeing Claire again is enough of a shock to render Layton, for just the shortest moment, speechless. But he finds his manners again soon enough.] Of course. Even more so than that, I would think.

Claire... [A tip of the hat and a fond smile.] It's good to see you again.

And you. How is everything?

[To be honest, she's missed him, so she holds out her arms. Hug time?]

[Yes, hug time. A gentleman cannot refuse a lady's whim, after all. The embrace is warm, but just the slightest fearful; Layton doesn't know if he can say goodbye a third time. He shakes off the notion. What is most important is the here and now. He's had enough of living in the past.]

All right, I suppose. I've said goodbye to my apprentice a little while ago, and it seems things have gotten rather quiet around London.

How about you, my dear? [No discombobulated molecules and all that.] I hope this place has been treating you well.

[She gladly presses her face into the front his shoulder as she hugs him, before pulling back so she can talk.]

No complaints. My mun has found a home for me, but it's a little lonely with no one I know there. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I make new friends, though.
