On to bigger and brighter things, hm?
I want to continue my research. You know that my work has been the most important part of my life. If somewhere else allows me the space in which to do that, I believe it is for the better.
...why are you looking at me like that?
I want to continue my research. You know that my work has been the most important part of my life. If somewhere else allows me the space in which to do that, I believe it is for the better.
...why are you looking at me like that?

Not to mention our own particular test subject.

[And that could mean...a few people, actually.]
...which one?

The range of sentient lifeforms and constructs is appealing, though some of the resources are suspect, unfortunately.
[It certainly could.]
Ah, was I unclear? Sephiroth.
no subject
The resources? They are not freely given?
[Another lip bite.]
You could have meant...no. Of course you would mean Sephiroth. I'm afraid he is not overly fond of me when he is grown.

[Not as if she could figure it out for herself or anything...]
Oh, they are. There's an entire laboratory floor, free to use, quite modern by our standards. Yet all the equipment is provided by our captors, and I'm sure you can see how that might be--suspicious.
[He chuckles.]
Ha. Do you think he's any more fond of me? Far less, I'd say. He can't even speak to me, but then, he always scorned me. [Hojo's smile fades, and he actually seems somewhat annoyed by this fact. It's true that he doesn't like being looked down on.]

That is quite suspicious. No one ever gives you anything without expecting something in return. And I seriously doubt if they expected only a fully completed thesis, there would be no reason to keep prisoners.
]Just ignore that she's wringing her hands a little.]
Perhaps it's for the better he doesn't speak to you. He couldn't...he would not understand.

Of course, of course. It has occurred to me that offering us these materials is but another part of the behavioral aspect of the experiment, to see what we do with them. It's impossible to say what they want of us, as they give no real indication, other than some written foolishness about us being happy. Answering these questions is part of my research as well.
[Hojo sniffs.] I made him what he is. [This isn't a bad thing, as far as Hojo's concerned.] He's stubborn, recalcitrant.

Foolishness indeed. If you are keeping someone captive you hardly care about their happiness. Not ultimately. However, it seems to suit your purpose for the time being and perhaps some research will be finished.
[And Lucrecia bites her tongue and hides it all behind that smile again. This is for research. For science. And she won't point out she had half of making him too, and it just might be the better half.]
Contumacious as he may be, there are ways to ensure compliance. You simply have to play his game and have something he wants. He is still a child in some ways.

Play his game... I don't see why I should, though I agree that he is childish in certain ways. Considering his irrational opinion of me, it's doubtful I'll convince him I have anything he wants.
