How troublesome.
Everything ended before I had the chance to solve the mystery...
No matter, it really was less of a case and more aptly described as simple child's play; it did not follow logic as I knew it, for it was a world where spirits, true shapeshifters, and magic existed. It was a case Avril Bradley would have been able to solve all on her own; therefore, it would be insulting to call it a case at all, rather than a strange compilation of ghost stories come to life.
I must admit that partially sealing away our memories was a clever trick. Well-played, uncouth hag... even if I cannot forgive that witch for robbing me of so many precious memories! And on top of it all, she had the gall to take away my pipe too!
If I ever see her hideous, bloated head again, I swear I'll stretch that wrinkled skin halfway across the world, I will...! And kick, and scratch, and bite until she deflates like a terrifying balloon that no child would ever play with!
Hmph!
[And after that childish outburst, she goes quiet again.
For all her anger and grudging satisfaction over her half-cheated victory, celebrated by smoking her pipe for the first time in quite a while, she does miss those she met there: Emi-chan, Sensei, Miyuki, and she even misses the pompous strutting of that blue-feathered peacock.
She can't help adding, later, in a much more subdued tone:]
Was it all meaningless? Fated to be forgotten, like a dream?

That's a genuine, non-sarcastic smile. Savour it.]
