They're — white feathered squawking things. With really sharp beaks. ( There's something in his tone that makes it clear that he'd learned that last bit from painful experience. )

A shield out of...? I've heard heard quite enough about those birds from my mundane to think that maybe I should be glad I never saw them. On the other hand, I can see how they can be helpful too, but, a shield?
