I do not understand that you would have become other than we are! Would you have rather I and all our warriors bowed knee to you and allowed you rule however you wished?
[He is trying to understand- he himself has thought more than once about change and how it must affect Asgardia and its warriors now they dwell on Earth.]
I'd have restored Asgard to her rightful place at the top of the Yggdrasil! Under me, we would have seen a new era unencumbered by fate and the odious whims of Bor's bloodline! At last, Loki could have tasted victory! At last, Loki could truly have been free!
Your freedom and the rule of Asgard lie not on the same path, brother! You are the most cunning in all Asgard- had you truly wished Asgard to rise again, it might have been so. Instead you led Bladur astray with your ill-fated advice and brought us all to ruin once more!
[He pauses, seeking the words he wants. Words have ever been Loki's domain, not his.] Our people are ancient, Loki. We two have lived uncountable years. Aeons of tradition and myth do not change even in a day.
Overlook not your own choices, Loki. As Gods may be caught up in Myth but we are not that helpless to it.
And he has not allowed his path to be dictated. [There is a real chance in young Loki that the cycle does not have to repeat, and now Thor understands that his brother hoped for this as much as he does, if for different reasons.]
[Loki lifts his hand absently to his chest and rubs his wrist. It is a gesture he does when worried or uncomfortable. Sometimes it is a bluff but this time it's genuine. His expression, however, has its usual intensity.]
So you say but you never felt the shackles of Norn as I did. You were-and yet remain-aware of little. You and the others were praised, Thor, for what you did! Centuries of prophecy cursed me to become the God I am. I was to be the Destroyer and you and all of Asgard did naught but hate me for it. And you all reacted with anger and venom when I had the gall to do what I was ever destined to do!
[His fingers curl.]
Why do I tell you this...?
[The question is more to himself than Thor]
The ruins of Asgard were my temple. I threw myself upon my own sacrificial altar. If Loki is now truly walking his own path unfettered by the old ways then you must be sure that it remains thus. I did not die so that I could be reborn into another damnable cage.
[What can he say about the Norns and their fate as Gods? He knows it's constraints (maybe not as well as his brother) but it is his nature to face what is and overcome it, rather than find loopholes.]
I have never hated you, brother. I have been frustrated by you, confused- angered by your actions, yes. But you are always and will ever be my brother.
And I will do all I can for Loki.
[But his shoulders slump a little at the thought. He is doing as bad a job of looking after him as he did when he was young himself.]

Tradition favors you, it favors your ilk, but what has Norn done for me!?
