Did you miss me? I've only been a part of you for three years. To deny me is only detrimental to you. You know I get what I want.

Are you snickering at me? Listen, I know I don't have the greatest track record of victory, but there are extenuating circumstances involved in that win/loss tally - as you well know. Cutting ties with those I've come to know and care for at home will be difficult, but it's a chance for that fresh start I was never going to get in New York. Don't think I can't see that you're already setting me up for failure, though. I can read that journal title. I can change, dear. Don't you believe in me?

Baedal is just waiting for me. Stop dallying, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and send me. Let me off my leash, and know relief. I'll be ever so good. I'm a doctor. Think of how I can help those people! Would I do anything to betray your trust?

Oh so impatient. There is a lot of fun we could have with a leash.

You aren't wrong there. Sadly, you aren't my type. But I'm immensely flattered all the same.

Doesn't that seem like a lot of effort just for someone who doesn't want you?

[There's no small amount of the pot calling the kettle black in that statement - not that Jeanette would realise.]

There is something about you, though. I can't quite put my finger on it. You're different.

[She takes the second comment as a compliment smiling with the usual seductiveness that oozes off of her.]

I don't... Didn't mean it like that. Well, I did mean it like that, but not only like that.

Oh, what are you, darling? You're no mere human, are you?

[She's considering this for a little bit.]

Are you easily scared duckling? I don't want to frighten you away.

[That's more like it. She smiles.]

Oh, no. I'm not easily scared. Please... Show me?

[Beneath it all Jeanette liked attention and she felt this woman was trustworthy enough. So after a moment she show her fangs off.]

These aren't fake duckling. I'm one of those creatures of the night prowling; a vampire.

[She smiles a little still showing the fangs off.]

I won't hurt you though and a lot of the movie stuff is wrong.

[Well, she didn't run off!] A vampire? A real vampire? This isn't some sort of... genetic anomaly? Were you born like that, or were you turned?

Fascinating! [Oh, doctors.]

[Well not running was a good sign, as well as the enthusiasm.] Yes a real vampire. I was turned into one.

If you're curious that involves draining a human until they're dry and then giving them some of your blood.

[There was a seductive implication in her words.]

So if you want to feed me duckling you don't have to worry about dying yourself.

That's both absolutely intriguing, and simultaneously horrifying. I don't think vampirism would suit me, though. I enjoy the sunlight on my face far too much. I'd hate to go back to a life underground.

It isn't so bad duckling but I won't force you into anything like that.

But I do seem to have peaked you interest. So what do you want to do from here?

I suspect your thirst for blood is well matched by my thirst for knowledge. You definitely have my attention.

I'm afraid you'd find me quite dull company. I'd only bombard you with an endless array of questions that you've no doubt answered countless times over the length of your existence.

How old are you, anyway?

Well as long as you find a way to hold my attention between questions I'll answer them.

[It was a challenge, it didn't have to be sexual but her tone did imply it.]

Oh that would be telling too much. But really, I'm not much older than you are. At least I think.

And unless you're really unlucky about what clan you get embraced into you don't age so it doesn't really matter too much.

So... you're young, as far as vampires go? [Was that disappointment in her tone?]

So your clan determines... what, precisely?

[A challenge is a challenge, but this one seems to go unanswered for now.]

Well sort of but you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone older than your great-grandparents willing to talk without tying you up in some sort of plot.

[Well this is a question that was worth talking about in detail at least.]

Your clan can determine a lot of things; the curse and the powers mainly. The Nosferatu for example? They're what some people call "ugly as sin" so they're stuck living in the sewers when most of us are out enjoying the night. But they're the go-to kindred for information. They can turn invisible on a whim.

The Toreador are usually really pretty artistic types. It isn't hard for them to find a willing human or two and they usually fit in with humans well. Except they can get paralyzed by something they find beautiful until they can get out or someone breaks them out of it. If neither of those happen well; there is an old story of a Toreador that couldn't stop looking at the sunrise.

[With that little spiel over she would smile.]

Any more questions? I can talk all night as long as you can offer a place to sleep where there isn't any sun light.

Ah. A usefulness in exchange for knowledge. As opposed to the I'd-tell-you-but-then-I'd-have-to-kill-you approach.

I have thousands of questions swimming about in my mind, but this dear mundane of mine is insisting that I quiet down so that she might get some sleep herself before daylight.

Oh, the research I could conduct. Instead of merely the Evolved, I would have Xenians to work with. Can you imagine? All that power.

Evolved? In what capacity?

Oh, I don't have to imagine. I work with them quite frequently. Disappointingly, many Xenians I've encountered are only... superficially different from humans. But then, I haven't been here long.

Ordinary people, but with superpowers. That's a trip, isn't it? I was born with abilities myself.

Perhaps if you had a partner, you could further your research more quickly?

That is a trip. I've had the opportunity to study some, myself-- not in Baedal, outside of the odd Xenian, but somewhere else. Fascinating, what the human body is capable of. [Pause.] What are your... particular abilities?

[Oh no, she's like him, and she has his ex's face, this can ONLY LEAD TO DISASTER.]

Wouldn't you know, I'm in the market for one? My projects are at something of a standstill at the moment.

I know. One little errant strand of DNA and everything goes topsy-turvy. [A grin.] I can do anything I please.

[Scary, isn't it? Disaster is so much fun, though!]

I'd provide you with references, but they're a little difficult to get in touch with from Baedal. You'll just have to take my word for it when it comes to my... qualifications.

Oh, I've done prison before. This place looks nothing like that. I hear you can live virtually anywhere you please. No more segregated slums for me. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Is it living, to be removed from ones home, purpose, family? I suppose we'll all find out.

Purpose is malleable. I don't have family. Not really. Not anymore. I suppose if I had ~~less people that want me dead~~ more to keep me here, I would find the notion of an entire dimensional shift more distressing.

My apologies. I may be excited, but you do have my sympathies. I hope you find that this is not nearly as terrible as you are expecting it to be.

Sweet as your apologies may be, I've no use for them. When one leaves their friends and loved ones behind, one also leaves behind their enemies. I only cannot say that I share your excitement.

See? There's a silver lining to every dark cloud. You'll make new friends. With a little luck, you won't make new enemies.

I have a rather big sword and some strong opinions. I shall win some enemies, but at the very least, pray to the gods they will be less irritating than the ones I am leaving behind.

It's always beneficial to carry a big sword if you're going to back up strong opinions. At least you'll be well equipped to deal with these new foes?

Mm. Observant. There are some things you just can't prepare for, I suppose. I have to say I approve of your weapon of choice, at least. Like a good blade, me. May be useless against some abilities, but that's where lurking in the shadows comes in handy.

Though... you don't much strike me as the shadowy type. Let alone the sort who lurks.

I have not encountered enemies that can't be defeated with folded steel, but I'm a quick learner. I'm also a knight of the Kingsguard; we favour more gallant approaches to solving our problems. [ Oh so wry. ]

But then, lurking has its place, for different problems and pleasures.

You're a very practical man, you know that? I'm a bit surprised, actually. Hope you aren't offended by that. Just not... generally what I've come to expect.

Where I come from, someone has to be practical. What did you expect?

Stubbornness, mostly. An inflexibility or an unwillingness to adapt. Though you wouldn't be nearly so successful at what you do if your nature didn't allow for change, so I really shouldn't have been surprised.
