How can you miss me? I didn't go anywhere. Still right here. Wherever here is. And

the_library, though yeah, not much is going on. Maybe that'll change, maybe not, it would help if you put something up there.

So, are you going to take me somewhere else too? Where would you even? Would there be akk dogs there?

I didn't say I wanted them, just that I want to know if they're there. Or other giant scaly predators. Or giant predators that aren't scaly, whatever. Preferably ones with vulnerable points like krayts, so they're all big and tough and alarming, but you know you can kill one if it corners you.

Sure. But so could little scalies. Or little not-scaly animals, or falls, or little bits of rusty metal. You can't worry about everything.

True enough, but how do you defend yourself against them?

Also there was this one time a few years ago with a krayt dragon where I didn't have a rifle, but I had a gaffi stick, that's kind of a club-spear. ...Not sure if that counts or it was a dream, but it sure felt real.

Well, at least you are prepared.

Gotta be prepared on Tatooine. My uncle always says, if the suns don't kill you something else will. Aaand he's right, but... I do okay. The main issue there is that it's boring. Nothing ever changes!

Maybe it is, maybe not. I mean, yeah, a lot of places don't seem like they're good to be in, but I grew up on Tatooine. It's not like I've never seen danger or hardship, and getting presented with either would kill me.

I'm sure we could find something to do if we put our minds to it.

Yeah? 'Cause my mundane just keeps kind of wandering off and getting short-attention-span when she tries thinking of things.

It's a library! You could at least get a good education.

Yyyyyeah, but it's... like, a staying in one place education. Boring.

Traveling doesn't last forever. Eventually, you have to stop and put down roots, and you might as well know what you're doing when you get to that place.

I don't know. They say some spacers, if they settle down they don't like it, they go around always looking up. I've only sort of been in space, but even just thinking about that... Why would you stop?

[ She's gotten too personal, and she can recognize that. She winces a bit. ]

Sometimes you don't have a choice. But there are some people who won't ever stop traveling, you're right. Is that what you want to do with your life? [ That's not a judgement, just an honest question. ]

My father was a spacer. He plotted courses and did the navigation stuff for a freighter. I think he stole from my uncle or something to leave, but anyway he never said goodbye, and he never came back.

They say I'm a lot like him. And... Okay yeah, Tatooine is boring, but it's not just that. It never changes, not really. Someone moving three hundred klicks and setting up a homestead gets talked about for months. It's so... still, and so small, and things are happening up there but almost no one cares.

I don't like the way my father left. It was wrong. But I can't just be on Tatooine all my life like my uncle wants. I have to go out there someday, and see, and know.

...Did I just make a speech?

[ She laughs a little. ] It was a good speech, I promise. I'd take you traveling with me if you gave it. That's not up to me, though.

I wonder if it'd work on people at the spaceport? [he wouldn't actually give it or go if it did work, but it's fun to think about]

I don't know what I want to do, exactly, but I want to fly, and travel, and... worry about later later.
