[Hey, if Loki was interested in Herc's dad they could just both turn into horses and have at it! That's something, right?]
Hope does seem to be paired with disappointment all too often, it's true. Yet then again, have you ever thought of conquering the frost giants and leading them into more civilized life? I doubt there's any who would take issue with it (save perhaps the frost giants, and even then you could claim it as birthright) and doubtless there's many a soul that would gladly aid such an endeavor.
[Besides, there's room to claim it's the alien race who failed, yes? After all, they DID get their portal opened, after which they were supposed to take care of the rest... and if they disagreed with such logic, having hordes of giant blue bodieswarriors to throw at them could well make you too troublesome to deal with.]
I would rather not. I am content not having any more to do with them at all. My birthright would be denied immediately, considering the murder of their king and near total genocide of their race.
The further away I stay, the better my chances of keeping my head on my shoulders.
[ Nah. Not for quite some time. He's had quite enough of the world takeover attempts, he has. And even if he was welcomed with open arms-- to be king of a race of monsters on a dying planet? Yeah, no thanks. ]
[Sadly, as much as you might be to Papa Zeus' liking, tact has never been much of a priority for him. He's terribly disappointing that way, but at least he's all about the shapeshifting?]
Admittedly, the birthright would only be a talking point after conquering them with a fearsome horde- but if it lacks appeal, it lacks appeal. Still, where does that leave you?
[And here he thought that 'Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven' would appeal to you, Loki. And the thing about building civilization among the monsters is that it's all your work, to shape and take credit for as you please. The chance to go all 'Fine! I'll build my OWN Asgard. With blackjack! And hookers!' is a... really good way to describe Olympus, come to think of it.]
[ ... well, if Papa Zeus is a looker, maybe Loki will consider that offer. ]
You make it sound as if I want to conquer a dwindling race of monsters on a desolate frozen wasteland of a planet. What point is there in being king when your subjects are so disgraceful and pathetic? I have better things to do with my time than waste it on something so fruitless.
[ That's- not to say that Earth was any better, but shh. Leave him be, he's had enough with realm conquering for this current lifetime. ]
[Ancient Greek or no, Herc really doesn't look at his dad that way- but hey, there's probably some reason he's been such a success.]
On the contrary, it's rather plain you lack any sort of interest- but in answer, just as the proverbial 'devil's advocate', it is because one can mold them to greatness. It's been shown time and again in the mortal world, that a skilled and cunning leader is what makes a barbarian tribe into a great nation- and all the glory that nation achieves is reflected in its founder.
Yet since that road holds no interest for you, what does seem a fair fit? I daresay you would make a magnificent ambassador-at-large, your clever and devious mind a boon beyond compare such in a position of authority and respect- but I'm in no shape to say whether that would be a path open to you.
[Well obviously Earth WAS better, hence the losing- but if this Loki was tired of strife, Herc would hardly say against it. There had been too much suffering on all hands from his ambitions, Loki himself included; a sneer may look more suited to his face than laughter and merriment, but so much would be settled if the trickster just started having fun again.]
