In my mun's case, it is a barrier she has constructed on her own. The task would be complete within an hour if she would only apply herself.

Not entirely, though a little initial buttering up always seems to work with her. It's simply a question of balance. You see, were I to call her a lazy procrastinator she would simply scoff and call me a hypocrite, though if I convince her that I have the utmost faith in her excellent capabilities to complete the task at hand, she becomes much more willing to cooperate.

Alas, mundanes are not at all like students. At least with students you can use actual physical harm as an incentive. Mundanes are a different breed all together.

[Now, see, he doesn't necessarily agree with the first bit, at least not when it comes to his own mundane, but he can nod his understanding because certainly there are situations where offering one's support will do more good than giving orders or issuing reprimands... Or insulting them.

But then the man just had to go and add in that second part and now Eraqus has whipped out The Deep Frown of Immense Disapproval. He waits a moment because maybe the stranger intends to tack on a just kidding or otherwise clarify that his statement about threatening one's students to motivate them is meant to be taken as a joke.
