When something good happens to his friends, he's happy. That's how he is. It was probably decided on long before it became your head canon.

Ah, yeah, the time travel thing... As if I didn't hate the idea of time travel enough already, now there's even more of it in canon than there already was. It kind of makes you wonder what exactly Merlin had in mind when he warned Sora and the others about being tempted to change things when he sent them into the Timeless River.
