Preparing for the Institute

Okay, I'll admit, I'm kind of flattered. Not a lot of people seem to remember me enough.

And it's AU, which means... I'm not dead, so that's something too.

So I guess I'm not really criticizing? It's just unusual, that's all. Especially since I know you have two other Exiles in your headspace that you're a bit more fond of.

No, no, like I said, I'm not complaining. I'm just curious, really. And hoping you're not planning on throwing me at Wolverine too much. I hear there's some issues in other universes with him and my counterpart. Counterparts. You know.

Just how bad can these AUs get? I don't have much experience with them.

Well, they can run to every extreme, really. From peaceful worlds where everyone is an antelope-man (don't ask), to barren wastelands where 3/4 of the world's population has been infected by an alien techno-organic virus.

But I doubt this one's gonna be quite that bad.

I hope not. It's a school, so it's not like that much can happen. Still, the mutant part seems like a big concern.

I think what really bothers me is how much my mun is comparing me to that Wolverine you mentioned. He went through some surgery to get that strong or something, didn't he?

Trust me, it being a school won't stop things from happening, even if it's remotely like the Xavier Institute I come from.

Something like that. It was some shady organization that tried to turn him into their personal super-soldier or something. They basically cut him up and made his bones and claws unbreakable.

True. I've met the other girl who's on her way there. She'll probably be one of the people to cause trouble.

That sort of thing's a very risky procedure. I can understand that, though; I went through something similar that made me into an android. My mun's not sure if that's enough to count me as a mutant, though.

Oh, yeah. I'd bet my tuition on it.

It is, but Wolverine has a healing ability that makes it less risky, which is why they figured he could survive it.

Oh? What happened?

Basically, the world was ravaged and nearly destroyed by war and everyone wanted to fix it. They planned to perform a special operation on someone who would then rebuild the world for everyone to share. Clean the trash, replant trees, the works.

My body was the only one that could handle the operation, so after my recovery and the ten thousand years it took to clean everything up, the world became a beautiful and clean place to live in once again.

Wow... I mean, it's terrible that you had to go through that, but what you were able to accomplish... that sounds amazing!

It was rough and it took a long time, but that made it all worthwhile in the end.

From what I understand, this new AU won't be as bad. Just a lot more discrimination than what I'm used to. Hopefully, yours will be simple, too.

My original universe was pretty simple, but I've been a reality-hopper and seen some terrible worlds. This actually sounds like it might be pretty similar to home.

Well, no. That's kind of where I was going with it. He's not my type in more ways than one, and I just wanted that to be clear.

Besides, if this is AU, I'd be the only Mariko from the get-go, so really, it wouldn't work any which way.
