I appreciate the interest, but I already have plans to go to another city, for my summer job in Metropolis. I'm not sure heading to this Nautilus place would be the best idea. Besides, I'm still getting used to, well, certain changes. Is that really the best place to be dealing with all that?

Though I guess you've already made your mind up. So I guess we'll make the most of it?

Yes. I'm interning for the summer as a copy boy for the Daily Planet. It's not much, but it could help me later on if I want to get a job as a reporter once I leave high school.

I don't know much about Nautilus, but I don't imagine it has a newspaper, does it?

Nautilus has a newspaper. No idea who publishes it, but the paperboy is... scary-dedicated.

Well ma'am, I'm not sure how things work in Nautilus. But when I had a paper route, I was responsible for all the papers I delivered. If anything happened to them, it came out of my check. Maybe it's the same way for your paperboy?

He's Metropolis's superhero. Even in my time, if he's staying in any city, it's Metropolis. I guess you're from before his time, though. ...which means you might get to report on his debut!

He's... not like that. He has a tendency to break stuff when delivering the papers, delivers them whether or not we subscribed, and threatens us for payment.

Okay, that does sound a bit odd. But maybe they just handle newspaper subscriptions differently in Nautilus than they do here in Smallville.

N-no, of course not! I've noticed girls before now. [He can ever talk to them, so long as all that romantic stuff doesn't enter into it.] It's figuring out, other things. Like what I'm going to do with my life, and the skills I've been given.

Haha, sorry! I couldn't not ask, since you kind of set yourself up for something like that.

So I'm guessing the summer job thing is part of it all? What kinda skills do you have?

Heh, suppose I did.

I write, mostly. I've written a few stories for the paper here in Smallville, that's part of what helped me get the internship in Metropolis. I'm not sure if being a reporter is what I want to do with my life, but it feels like the best option right now.

Hm, well. Not like writing is the most exciting thing in the world, but I guess it depends on if you get to be, like, one of those on-the-scene reporters who's right up on the edge of all the best action. That could be pretty cool, I guess.

I prefer to be right in the middle of everything, though. That's way more fun!

I'd like to do that. Or maybe investigative journalism, try to go after people who are taking advantage of others. Try to do something good for everyone, I guess.

Not all of us are made to do that, though.

Yeah, you're right. Some of us are just naturally tougher and more heroic than others. [Shush, Rex, you weren't born with powers.] Still... If your mun wants to put you in Nautilus, you could be more than just the guy who reports stuff.
