I'm not entirely certain you have thought this through. While you may think this is something you can handle, not many are made to survive when true freedom reigns. That you call it chaos proves my point exactly.

As for the storyline that allowed your mind to grasp tightly to my own consciousness, do try and accept that what you may perceive as this thing you call "headcanon" may not be a path I wish to share with you.

Alright, if you want to know: you tried to wipe out a city full of innocent people. Yeah, there are plenty of criminals and scum in the city but there's also plenty of good in it, too, and that's worth preserving. All you wanted to do was destroy it all with some warped ideology serving as your justification for doing so.

So, no, I don't like the thought of anyone finding a "kindred soul" in someone like you.

Full of innocent people. Perhaps some of them were innocent but full of them is a bit much, don't you think? Were they innocent people that helped to plant the explosives that took out the city? Were they innocent when they dragged people from the homes they owned? The crime rate of Gotham would speak differently of innocence, and I would think you would know that more than most.

It has happened before in a way. Once more is not far fetched.

[ The fact that Bane had gotten his way had a part of Blake seething but he wasn't willing to give into that anger. Not for this man. ]

And what of those that were? You didn't care about them; just in proving whatever point you were wanting to prove at the expense of them.

[ That was wrong in Blake's mind. There were those that could be easily corrupted or bought in Gotham (he didn't doubt that quite a few had been threatened into compliance). Didn't make any of what they did right but for the people that tried - and always kept trying - to do good, they deserved better than what Bane had had planned for them. ]

Name a conflict in history that did not involve the loss of those that did not, or would not, chose a side. If they were innocent, then by extension, they should have been fighting for the side of hope. What did they do while Gotham sank?

Nothing.

So you expected children and babies to just pick up weapons and start fighting?

I have known a child that would have done just that. One that would not have let anything stop them from the world they wanted.

And? Does that mean the ones that aren't like that deserve to die?

Or by the actions of the Bat and his little friends. You, for instance.

When scientists set an experiment they have guesses to the conclusion but only know with empirical evidence.

You hope. You hope there's some reason for what I do. To accept it is my desire and not something to do with the mask is hard to swallow, isn't it?

His voice is more calm, steady. ]

Probably about as hard as it would be for you to accept a life without your mask.

[ Bane doesn't move. He says nothing. His gaze flickers slightly but he waits. Years of practice and patience in revealing nothing. ]

Not the same thing. Closer would be you living your life with a lung, without your hands and tongue and eyes.

[ Blake meets that stare, determined to hold it out of sheer force of will if nothing else. He obviously hasn't had as much practice as the other man, doesn't have the patience, neither, but he doesn't back down. He can't allow himself to.

Instead, he decides to throw a similar statement Bane had given him back to the other man. ]

You wouldn't tell me what the mask was for, so how could I know how it mattered?

[ Swaggering, Bane took a step closer. ]

No one cared until I donned the mask. That is all answer I need if anyone will care now.

[ Remaining where he was, feeling a slight urge to step back but ignoring it. ]
