And we're doing fine. I mean, sure, it'd be nice if Cess and Sooraya were there. Or any of the others. Not Surge. Quit saying that. I don't need that kind of headache. But the others? I wouldn't hate it.

I don't get it. [Sofia looks briefly upset, like the time her team had been falling apart before and this time she wasn't even there to stop it.]

[ Julian shakes his head, but then looks at her closer. He sighs. ] He's changed, Sofia, okay? We all did. We had to.

I remember when David didn't want to fight. Didn't want to be a X-Man. These days he's everybody's team player. [ More than Julian is, but he's not exactly gonna specify that. ]

Surge is like she ever was. Quieter, maybe. And angrier. [ But then who isn't? ]

He's not like you remember. He's not that guy. Healing isn't all he does, Sofia. And when he found that out it screwed him up.

Isn't David helping Josh? Surely David hasn't changed so much he'd forget his best friend.

And for the record, yeah. He tried to help, everyone tried to help. Josh lost it for a while. He's better now, but he's not gonna be the same.

[ Julian isn't sure any of them will ever be the same. Sometimes things happen and there isn't any going back.

Of course, he'd thought that about him and Sofia too. He'd been wrong there. Maybe he was wrong about the rest.
