[Apparently neither of them are good at pulling themselves out of potentially awkward or sticky situations.]
What happened to being Buffy's champion? [The C word comes out a lot quieter than the rest of his words considering it's still hard to accept that Spike is a hero.]
Don't be an idiot, Spike. Clearly something's going on between the two of you and instead of dealing with it like a normal person you're planning to escape the moon.
She's better without me in her life. Nothing good ever comes from the two of us being together and yet somehow we keep getting dragged back in. [He's not sure why he's telling Spike all of this but it's an admission that he needs to get off his chest.] I still love her. A part of me always will. She gave me a purpose and showed me that I could be somebody decent, somebody that could make amends and she taught me how to feel again. But I'm not in love with her any more. She's outgrown me and there's nothing that I can offer her. Maybe it's for the best that she can't stand the sight of me. I don't ever want to hurt her again, which is why I'm going to keep away from her...forever. [And he means it this time. The only way he'll ever allow himself to see her again is if she desperately needs him. Otherwise he knows that it's just best for him to keep his distance.]
[Spike's quiet for a moment because he's pretty sure he really shouldn't have abandoned Buffy... but he's not Angel, and it was different. He and Buffy parted amicably because Buffy didn't share his feelings and just being the guy she confided in sometimes had stopped being enough. So he left, rather than finding an excuse to stick around and keep hoping for what would never come.]
You better bloody mean it this time. If you hurt her again, I'll kill you. Even if she ends up hating me for it.
[Suspicious look.] We're very different. There's our colouring, for one thing. And the part where you're dead boring. And I already mentioned the forehead, didn't I?
