Although I would prefer to remain with my intended master, I am pleased to enter your service, as well. Please accept my regards, and my hopes that this will be a pleasant and productive working relationship.

If I may bring it to your attention, I notice that since we've made each other's acquaintance, you have been browsing office supplies and organizational tools. I appreciate this foresight, but allow me to caution you: to over-involve yourself with the trappings of productivity steals energy that could otherwise be placed into useful projects, especially if there is uncertainty that you may make use of these tools after all.

As an Entourage optimized for work in an office setting, I would like to offer my assistance to you in this endeavor. If you truly wish to find your life more organized, I am familiar with all commonly used clerical and corporate applications, and would be pleased to set all relevant affairs in order for you. Should you accept this proposal, I will merely need your confirmation, and access to all relevant material on the subject.

We are living on an island called Siren's Port, in an era that precedes the Creators.

We- that is, myself, Raul Creed, Re-l Mayer, the companion-type autoreiv Pino.

[Conveniently, we'll leave the Proxy out of this, for now.]

We arrived...nearly in consecutive succession, following the fall of Romdeau. Pino arrived months later.

Raul is... Well. Ambitious, as you'd probably expect. He's done well for himself, considering that we are all 'Newcomers' here. Immigrants.

[Have a pulse of red light in her eyes as she scans her databases. Nope, no Siren's Port on record. Not surprising, if they've evidently traveled that far back in time.]

Yes, ambition and success are only to be expected from a man such as himself. Are you referring to this success coming in spite of his status as an Immigrant, or to Chief Raul establishing himself in a position working with the issue of immigration?

We've cast our differences behind us for now, for the most part.

No working relationship is perfectly smooth, but I am pleased to hear it, nonetheless. Are you referring to simply peaceful co-existence, or is there a joint venture you are a part of?

We work together for the Newcomer's Political Party- no one in office yet, but we have a committee, and a community center.

Siren's Port is a faction-based electoral representative democratic system, then. How unusual. In a city with such a high saturation of Immigrants, would such an unstable political arrangement not lead to civil strife and inefficiency in meeting basic needs?

Civil strife and inefficiency describes it very well, in fact.

Acknowledged. It seems to be a dangerously irrational and potentially self-destructive policy directive.

[How very typical of humans, isn't it? Especially pre-Creator era humans, who blindly tore the world asunder while held in thrall by their passions. No doubt much of the politics of Siren's Port are driven largely by emotional reactivity and partisan interests.]

Good citizenship certainly isn't considered a very high social value, either!

It's astonishing, to be honest, that it does not simply dissolve into chaos.

How remarkable. Humans truly can adapt to anything.

What social values do the Citizens of Siren's Port possess, if not good Citizenship?

They are most highly concerned with maintaining their personal freedoms, exploring their own emotional interests, hedonistic pleasure seekers, ambitious for the acquisition of resources- (and one has to be, they have terrible distribution)...

Sorry, I suppose I should say something nice, but it's easy to be critical.

Those employed by the Health and Welfare Bureau are professionally obligated to undertake honest and accurate assessment of the Citizens and City they serve--and to seek to improve their quality of life wherever possible, in the manner best suited to their specialty. It is your job to be critical, Doctor Yumeno.

Well, here I'm not exactly employed by the Bureau... not in any administrative sense.

I'm just a simple attending doctor, at a medical center. I think my supervisors would greatly prefer it if I set my attentions on the level of patient care, and little else. I've developed something of a reputation for speaking my mind-

But that's certainly not winning me any advancement.

Acknowledged. You perform what would be the Bureau's work, employed in a low-level position within an unaffiliated facility.

[What an inefficient structure. :| What a waste of talent.]

In a properly structured and executed program, I expect there would be little difficulty in attending to patient care alone. However, the system of advancement in this facility seems to present some level of bias. An unhealthy environment results in unhealthy Citizens.

You really haven't the faintest idea, how unhealthy.

And yet they are perfectly capable of basic biological functions, where we have failed.

I expect not. My scanners have not been customized beyond the demands of basic environmental assessment and medical diagnostics.

However, Doctor Yumeno, you have previously stated that Siren's Port exists within a pre-Creator era. Given this fact, it may be possible that these Citizens retain basic biological functions because they have not yet endured a cataclysm that would damage their capacity for such.

Several well-intentioned gifts have also gone unnoticed by several citizens; it seems that those with superior organizational skills are doomed to watch those struggle with their own inadequacy.
