Besides, it's not like we can let Clover go into this all by herself! Because you know how it always goes. She gets warped unrecognizable, then Alex gets kidnapped, and then I have to go in and pull them back together! (At least, I think that's how it went? I can't exactly remember...)

Anyway. My point is, we've gotta stop over-thinking this stuff and just hop to it! There're tons of baddies out there that need stopping. So! Has Jerry given us our destination yet?

Not that I'm in any place to make requests, but it'd sure be neat if it was someplace foreign and exotic. Maybe someplace cosmopolitan? With lots of sites and relics...

[Now he brightens up with a smile. That was one of his biggest issues and now he's happy that the outcome could be better for him. Talking to Sam about it helps in more ways than one. At least he didn't have to face his commander with this issue.]

I've been doing a lot of reading and self study in between training and logistics reports. You see, I belong to a militant group of individuals that are specialized in peacekeeping operations through the control of individuals that could pose a threat to humanity.

Unfortunately, through my work, my educational process was put on hold. I can't say that specifically for the others in my team, but it holds true with me. I make no excuses for my lack of it, now that I am aware that it is necessary to advance.

Well that's not unusual. A lot of what sticks with you is what you venture to learn on your own time, besides. [Sam tries to give an encouraging smile, though she isn't sure how readily it'll be accepted.]

[It certainly took a little thinking on his part and the outcome could help in a large way. Alter users really don't have much of a future than to act as tools for the government and seen as non-humans, which is something that he doesn't know yet.

Right. As a friend once said, knowledge is power. I certainly have a long way to go but I'm on the right track. Maybe I can use it for the best for everyone. I'd like that.

Well, admittedly this place is kinda foreign to me, so I'm not exactly sure how things work around here.

A little research never hurts. From the data I was able to gather earlier from my first time in this place, it appears to be some sort of Nexus. In my world, it's called The Gate, or in this case, a parallel dimension that co-exists alongside our own realities that time appears to have no effect.

I can't be certain of that unless I have more data.

Like some sort of bridge between realities?

[Hrm...] So, you're saying that my com-powder...it's breached into some non-dimension?!

It certainly seems that way, but I wouldn't say breached otherwise others would have been sucked in through some sort of vortex with some rather violent effects.

[He's thinking along with you, Sam. He's in a nerd moment.]

I think it did, somehow, pierce through the thin barrier in some way. You know, come to think of it, you know the static we hear on the radio? The layer is so thin it's difficult to tell if it's another reality speaking to us through that static or if it's picking up signals from other sources.

What's to say that someone, somewhere, no matter the time, has found a way to communicate through time? Maybe, I'm overthinking things again.

No, no, that would make a lot of sense...though you must've been around quite a bit if you've thought it through that much.

It seems now that we're toeing the line into the supernatural and meta-beings. So, how do you feel about people born with special abilities? I'm not entirely sure how to phrase it better. I'm sorry if it seems like a simple-minded question.

[He felt that it was logical to ask just the same.]

Special abilities? [Now that wasn't what she was expecting.]

I can't say I ever ran into that situation. [She smiles and shrugs.] I imagine it'd be kinda cool, actually, though I guess how impressed I would be would depend on the ability.

I suppose so. The reason I asked was because I'm from a dimension different than yours that travels along that thin veil. You see, those of us born with powers are often hunted down and sent to labs for experimentation.

I'm not sure if that's something that could happen in your world. Those of us with these abilities, which vary greatly from user to user, are able to tap into what is called a Gate. This Gate allows us to deconstruct and reconstruct matter as we see fit. It's dangerous no matter how you look at it.

[His hand reaches up and makes a fist in the air above him.] It's like reaching into a place that most may never get the chance to see but it's there.

But if it's dangerous, wouldn't persecution only anger those that are like you?

[Since you clearly don't strike her as the angry type.]

[Thankfully, he's not the type to lose his temper so quickly to just anyone. He picks and chooses his battles carefully, and he's had his share of trouble that he learned the hard way.]

They can. Most of them flaunt their power as if they are gods. It's not true. No one person is immortal no matter how much they tap into the Gate. You see, there's only a small number of us born with these powers. Although we are Alters, we can still be hurt like anyone else.
