I think your problem comes in your lack of the ability to distinguish time. Not everyone is immortal, and not everything can wait for as long as it will take you to finish things. Prioritization is important, especially in your line of work. If you're going to be lazy, at least be smart about it.

I manage my time just fine, I do enough when it needs to be done and it gives me room to do other things when I feel like it.

It's just sometimes there's an abnormal amount, but that's really rare. That's an exception to the rule. Not much can be done about a sudden influx....
