Nah, she just doesn't want to say she actually likes me that much. Like she thinks I'll do something bad if she lets me out more.

Why would you do something...bad? And even if you did something bad in the past, that's okay. People can change.

That's naive. People don't really change. I have done bad things, and I'll do them again. Maybe not now, or soon, but eventually. It's inevitable.

My Mom used to do bad things. At least that's what she said. (A thoughtful look.) But she was a really good person. She said that when she fell in love, her priorities changed.

Maybe that's what you need. A reason to...want to do good.

Ugh. Why would I ever want to do good things?

[Except...something like that is kind of what he really wants, deep down. At least to have someone who cares about him.]

Because good things make the people you care about happy. It's worth it when they smile at you.

[Scoffs.] Maybe that matters to people who actually have someone that cares.

But they also make you weak. They can be used against you.

I'm sure someone cares about you. (She softens and smiles.) I'm happy I got to meet you.

(Here, she pauses.) But if you have someone...you can stand beside...the pain is bearable. You feel like you can endure anything.
