[on plurk antics]
I fail to see anything amusing in the prospect. While I am willing to admit that I would very much like to meet Booth's doppleganger, the idea of being "vamped," as you colloquially put it, is completely unappealing.
Not to mention utterly ridiculous. As a woman of science, you ought to know better than to credence to such fantasies. To think that it is even possible for a soul to be taken away, let alone replaced by a demon, is preposterous. The idea of a soul is purely a religious and philosophical construct. It is impossible for a person to lose something they never possessed.
I would advise that you quit being ridiculous and return to work. You are only wasting both our time with this line of thought and inquiry.

...or maybe he'll just look confused, and a little disturbed.]
First off, souls are real. I have a soul. You have a soul. Fact.
Second... what?!

Contrary to what you may think, your Catholic dogma is mythology, not fact, Booth.
no subject
What do you mean, "vamped?"
no subject
I believe it is her way of utilizing slang to summarize the process of being... made into a vampire.
no subject
I also agree with you on the origins of a 'soul'. Neither Agent Booth nor Agent Booth in a pair of polymeric fitted canines have a soul.

I can see why you believe in them. It is one of the core beliefs of one of the three leading religions of today's day and age. It does not make your argument valid since there is no proof of an afterlife let alone that there is some celestial being that individualizes us.
Though modern day Christians are not the first to believe in such mythology. [Yes, he just called your religion a myth.] Ancient Greeks believed in the same thing, but then they also believed one of their deities pulled the sun on a chariot. We now know that as the Earth's rotation around the sun.

And that's not the point. The point is that your boss could be in danger.

It would be laughable, if my mun was not so entranced with the idea.

Muns can be unreasonable like that.

I expected better of your mun, Temperance.

It is... very much a shame.

A variation, in a way, of cannibalism.

[A far more interesting topic than vampires.]

I found out about them because somehow there was a mix-up-- the daughter of the scientist in charge of the program accidentally wound up with one of the rabbits for a pet. It disappeared in the middle of the night after she'd seen it glow. Cage still locked.
Smart girl, she found John's blog and contacted me about the case.
[...Yes, he sounds completely serious about this.]

Bio-luminescence in a rabbit. Fascinating.]
What happened to the rabbit?
no subject
There were other specimens, though, one of which I got to see for myself. Glowed bright green, rather than blue.
[He is aware how impossible this would generally sound. And he doesn't know the precise science behind it to offer an explanation. His knowledge of biology extends only to what he needs for cases, and the glowing rabbits had never been pertinent enough to research further.]
no subject
I must admit, this is not the sort of case I would think you would take on.

You don't know everything.

Oh, it's quite possible. Scientifically, I might add - none of this mystical nonsense. Hard facts, I assure you. And there is no loss in at least some cases, regardless of where one comes down on the existence of a soul.
no subject
Of course there are. Porphyria, mass hysteria, premature burial. There are a number of reasons the vampire myth originated and persisted. None of which have any supernatural origin.

You're forgetting a possibility, my dear Doctor - though those reasons I suspect are what kept the stories alive - no, there was once a species. With incredible intelligence and advancement, it must be said. Arrogance, too - and when you have an immortal ruling class, it builds up rather astronomically.
At any rate, Sanguine Vampiris. Once mighty, and now thankfully just genetic remnants. And one extant member.
[Guess who.]
