And you do realize Peggy's pretty rare, right? Not much chance in finding one for me. [He'd like it very much, though, but he isn't gonna admit that to everybody.] Besides, she'd never agree with me.

Think you should let me out, but I doubt you'll like what I'm gonna do. You can go on about "evil Steve" being sexy, but you're really a nice, good person. [He makes a face.] But I know you're gonna let me out anyway. I've got important things to do.

Because when you don't let it get to you, then you stop thinking about them as people and then you don't care if they die. Makes you the same as anyone else people try and stop.

You were a symbol for a lot of people. Still are. That should mean something. [She very nearly smiled.] Maybe a few were good.

I wouldn't know about people in general. I grew up reading a lot of comics. Easy, disposable and I liked reading about good verses evil. Never saw the line clear and kept looking for it.

That's just a label. You really think it matters that much? Trying to save my country, I don't really care what I have to do to do. [Well, mostly. But he deserves it, too, he's sure he does.]

It's always easier to see that line in comic books. But since we're gonna put labels on people, which one are you? Good, I take it? Anybody would probably say that, though.

I think when you stop caring about those you're fighting for that it matters. A lot. When did the country matter more than the people? [No more smiles and flirting, deadly serious.]

I wouldn't. There's more than black and white. Lots of shades of grey there in the middle.

Don't think you quite understand. I'm not talking about killing a bunch of innocent people here, I'm talking about getting rid of those corrupt idiots who're gonna lose the war. Yeah, some other people are probably gonna die in the process, but it'll be worth it. [He's serious, too, and thinks he's justified. And he figured she wouldn't see things his way, not as soon as she started questioning his methods.]

I caught that. Then you made it seem that collateral damage is irrelevant. You don't get to knock out debts by taking out the bad guys with the good. Doesn't work that way. And you're now saying it outright.

Maybe I'm not exactly what some would call a white hat, but I don't think some deaths are necessary for control. I accept each kill ever marked against me as my own.
