canon is the mummy (1999)
Pardon me, but um, I do believe you have enough on your plate at the moment without adding me to the mix. I'm hardly ungrateful, it's just that your plans tend to edge away from scholarly pursuits and more towards dangerous adventures--
What do you mean, "enabling"? Who's enabling? I don't believe I want to go to one of these bizarre places, thank you very much. I'm still a bit worn out from putting a three thousand year old mummy to death, so if you'll excuse me--
... Oh, I can't really leave at the moment, can I? Well. I'm sure I'll find some way, just you wait.

[Well this timing seems coincidental.]

I believe this writer is a bit mad. She keeps saying something about vampires. [ Which of course do not exist because they haven't been proved to exist. Mummies are one thing, vampires are completely different. ]

[He's a bit thrown off here, to be honest. He's shown up in a weird place he can't escape and there's no one he can threaten to push into a ceiling fan to figure it out.]
Guess it's not any crazier than everything else.

[ Yes, well, she's certain his writer is rather thankful that he can't reach her. ]
But she does seem to be going back and forth on sending me to one of these... places.
no subject
[He gives her a dumbfounded look.]
Places?

Places. [ There's a gesture at the area around them. ] My observations have led me to believe that this is simply a... a meeting area of sorts. At times the writers will send us off to something they call a 'game', the setting of which changes depending on which 'game' and contains dozens of other people like ourselves. It would be rather exciting if it were up to us, but some of the premises and events are just terrible.

[Rick isn't entirely sure he understands all of what Evy's saying, but he gets Evy getting sent somewhere terrible she doesn't want to go. Which is something of a trigger for him.]
Where are you?
no subject
[ Well, at least he got that part. ]
Where am I? Well, I suppose I'm not really anywhere at the moment...
no subject
[Somewhere he can get to. With guns.]
no subject
I'm just... here.
no subject
Now that you mention it, where the hell am I?
no subject
The same place I am, I expect.

You see any landmarks around?
no subject
Not really. It's all very plain.

[Just pick a direction, O'Connell. This one seems as likely as the rest.]

[Just... turned around.]

[ She's a bit worried. ]

[And as long as there's a decent library, well, count her in.]

Then again, I suppose if one can't trust one's self, then they can't quite trust anyone.

[Evelyn's seen more than her fair share of things in the game her own mun placed her in, but the good tends to outweigh the bad.]
But I can certainly vouch for some of these places. Is your Mun looking anywhere in particular?
whoops html
Ah, yes -- I believe at the moment someone is attempting to get her to bring me to
no subject
[A few bad experiences there.]
I'm sure she thinks your sanity is a small price to pay for a reenactment of Murnau's Nosferatu.
[But that's besides the point.]
Is she going to throw you in willy-nilly without knowing anyone, or do you have the added benefit of a friendly face? I'm afraid I was subject to the former rather than the latter, it made for a rather interesting experience.
no subject
[ Of course they do. ]
There's no one there at the moment, no. She does know several people who may make that change, but one of those friendly faces has the possibility of being Beni, and I'd really rather not.
[ Which of course means it's a very real possibility. ]
