They do, usually. It is not easy to transform into something else. The animal has to be studied extensively and the body mastered.

So used to the transformation now, he immediately disappears amongst a hanging black mist which quickly reforms into a white owl beating its wings to stay aloft. The owl looks at Chrome as if to ask, 'Well?']

As for Chrome's reaction upon seeing you transforming like that... well, she has a hard time restraining herself not to squeal or pull you into a tight hug or bury your owlish head into her bosom.

[Mukuro has never been petted before but he's seen the way humans treat their pets. Avoiding the hand, he swoops around to alight on her out-stretched arm instead, claws gently gripping Chrome's wrist. Avoiding attention from the hunters was one of the reasons he chose this form, yes.]

But since he's been given permission, he approaches and gently takes her arm, his rough tongue lapping at the wounds inflicted by his talons. As long as he doesn't use his teeth, there shouldn't be a danger of turning Chrome.]

[This is Chrome, a woman who is willing to do anything for Mukuro, regardless of his age or species, as long as what he desires is within her capability. A few liter of blood drained from her body is nothing when she remembers that she's forever grateful for the new life Mukuro gave her.

[A few small wounds aren't enough to draw a few litres of blood from her, and Mukuro is satisfied with the small amount he drains from them in any case. When he's done, the wounds are already beginning to close as he straightens, licking his lips.]
