You know, I can do without meeting miss prince. Just because she made a comment about how fighting shinigami would be her entertainment doesn't mean she has to have me for that. I already have one hermit to deal with and the celestial was enough for me in that vein.

A carefree life is fine, within your allotted time. Cheating the system however isn't. Understand everyone has their time and place and need to move on wen their time is up.

Well that's not fair. Then what about you who are ageless and can be carefree forever?

I can't be carefree forever, I have a strict job you know, even if I can go at my own pace. Anyway, I'm not even alive, how do I count at all?

You live though you are not alive. You do the act, if not the literal thing.

I have a job I do that's mostly in the other world, I don't spend a lot of time in the world of the living really, most of it is at the edges. I wouldn't call sitting around and waiting for the dead to be ready from their last minute shopping so I can ferry them "living life to the fullest".

But you break away from the monotony of your job - fight it, apparently - by doing yet other things.

How is that not living? Your job is not living, it is a task you need to do in order for your life to proceed.

Hey I don't fight it, I just go see what's going on from time to time. Why not do that, huh? I mean, it's not so bad to check in once in a while after meeting them, right?

I think you're missing something here, my life isn't proceeding, it's a job I do because it needs to be done and I'm told to do it. Shinigami are just the extended agents of the Yama you know.... That's like saying Shiki sama lives because she judges....

That is exactly what I am saying. For spirits it is even more literal than it is for humans - humans earn a livelihood from their jobs. Spirits, on the other hand, are only created for that one purpose, and only exist for it as well.
