New book re-awakened an old muse - spoilers in comments possible

Nah, nah, dearie. That's where you've got it wrong. I can't re-awaken if I never went away. I was always here - you only just recently started hearing the howling again. You couldn't resist the call if you wanted to.

But let's see what becomes of this, eh? I'm anxious to see who this'll drag up and if anyone makes the connection... [He laughs.] Okay, okay, I'd be lyin' if I said I wasn't anxious to break a few skulls too. But hey, can ya' blame me?

You think so? Nothing to me seems more natural to a wolf than howling.

Not if you want to pass for somewhat human. So you're a werewolf?

[He scoffs and begins to laugh.]

Why in hell would I want to do that? And I might be, what's it to ya'?

In my experience werewolves tend to not want people to know they're werewolves. Cos people might decide to kill them. And so what? I hang with a lot of werewolves.

Then it sounds like the humans where you come from need to be put in their place and taught the proper pecking order.

I thought I smelled wolf on ya' - I'm curious now, do you have any magic about you or are you some kind of Muggle?

There're entire families dedicated to kill as many werewolves as they possibly can where I'm from. Slicing wolves into two. They're really problematic for the good weres.

I'm an abominable snowman. [Sarcasm]

Hmph...yeah, sounds like they got a little too big for their britches. The humans where I'm from may discriminate against us, but they wouldn't dare hunt us down unless they wanted open war. Which, don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to oblige.

[The sarcasm is met with a tilted brow and slight smirk.]

Oh, ya' got jokes. That's cute. I'm bettin' that mouth of yours gets ya' into all kinds of trouble.

Out Hunters doesn't seem to care. In fact all they care about is killing werewolves, not all the other awful things those werewolves tries to fight. Some humans can be more monstrous than monsters.

I'm pure as snow. Literally. [Feigns innocence]

Breaking skulls huh? I would think that's looked down upon.

Psh, by whom? As if I care who or what 'looks down upon' things.

[witchfactor]

Usually those whom makes the law but also others. You got attitude, I'll give you that much. Ought to be careful tho. Those whom do care might not be very kind.

The law, ha! As if I'm bound by rules outside of the pack - and even those are just guidelines anyway.

You're afraid of these lawmakers, eh? Not me. They got nothin' on me. They can try, I'll take 'em all down with me.

Pack? I assume that isn't just a word of endearment for your group of friends? If you plan on interacting with people outside of your pack, I would advise that you do follow the laws.

I've special bond with lawmakers. I follow the Wiccan Rede foremost however if I want to have a roof over my head, running water and heat, I'd need to follow laws institutionalized by the government and its lawmakers.

[He smiles, making it a point to flash his extra-sharp canine teeth.]

For such an intuitive guy you're awfully quick to give orders. Especially when ya' know what you're dealin' with. I've never been one to take orders, took over as alpha for a reason.

I do what I do to get by and blend in when the situation calls for it. But make no mistake, witch, I'm no mongrel pup. I make the rules, and any muggle law-dog who wants to try and stop me can meet my fangs, my claws, or my wand. Their choice.

Suggestions, not orders. You know what I am, wolf, so you also know it's my duty to protect innocents from demons and other creatures. I've quite a few tricks up my sleeve to do so. [He extends a flame from his palm to underline the point he's making.]

[He tilts a brow, but doesn't back down. Rather, he smiles and even gives a slight chuckle.]

Threatening a wolf? You've got balls, I'll give ya' that. If the innocents your bleeding heart wants so badly to protect stay the hell out of my way, we got no problems. I'm just an alpha looking to fight the discrimination the Wizarding World has held against my fellow werewolves.

[All the feigned innocence in the world is in his tone.]

There are bigger fish to fry than me, surely. Demons being the main thing - pretty sure those guys are bigger assholes than me, which is saying something!

Breaking skulls, Greyback? Really?

[Henry is not amused.] Will you ever grow up?

[With a smirk, he gets in Henry's face, flashing his sharp canine teeth.]

You're a fine one to talk about being 'grown up' horse-brat. Ya' still reek of those half-breed freaks.

Plus, might not be too smart an idea, pissing me off. First skull I break might just be yours.

[Henry wasn't scared of him. Centaurs were better than werewolves. He was half tempted to shift in his animagus state and show him that but he kept his cool.]

At least I smell better than you. I thought only cats didn't like water. Must be dogs too.

[He grabs Henry by the collar and pins him to the wall. He's bigger than Henry, his frame muscular.]

[He's the definition of an alpha.]

Careful. That mouth'll get you into trouble. It'd be easy for me to turn you, don't forget. One bite. One scratch. That's all it'll take.

[Henry didn't even flinch. But at the threat, he decided it was probably for the best to take control of the situation. Closing his eyes for a second, he summoned his animagus form. Within seconds, he was a fully grown centaur with a lower half the same colour as his hair and the hoof shaped scar marks across his chest showing due to the lack of clothing. Flameir, his brother, had originally hated how the scars showed on Henry's centaur form because he had been the one to do it. But Henry wore them proudly. He'd been kicked in the chest by a centaur and not many people could say that and live to tell the tale.

Towering over Fafnir now, he put on that special expression he'd learned from his grandfather; half smirk and half growl.] Try biting me now, wolf boy. Or maybe you'll end up with your own hoof mark scars.

[howlinggrey]

[He stepped back as Henry transformed. For a moment, he's pissed. He clenched his teeth and glared at the new centaur, then suddenly gave a slow smile.]

[He reached into his pocket and pulled a small pill out of a purple pouch. He doesn't hesitate before popping it into his mouth.]

[His eyes almost glow blue as he stumbles back, the potions and herbs from the pill triggering his transformation and soon a wolf-man with golden fur stands before Henry. He gnashes his teeth, snapping his fangs at Henry, returning the threat.]

Aww. Look at the puppy.

[Henry mocked. He'd beaten off wolves before, though never a werewolf. Despite that drawback, he was feeling confidant. As long as if it was just the two of them, he was sure he could come out on top. If someone else turned up, he wasn't so sure. He sorely doubted Fafnir would want to protect the bystander.]

[Fafnir growls and gnashes his teeth again. He moves faster than a wolf - far faster. He knows better than to let Henry get in front of him - one good shot from those back legs, and he's done for. Fafnir goes straight for the throat.]
