See, Mundane, I know you know that I am, quite frankly, bored. What should we do about it?

Oh, I don't know. Another adventure, perhaps - sort of similar to what I've already had, but perhaps not as tiring or dangerous!

[What is this with hobbits with un-hobbitish tendencies popping up on his doorstep? Now there's two of them!

Are they going to be multiplying? Please tell him they won't be multiplying.]

I'd think that's the danger of adventures - too tiring, very dusty and sleeping in strange beds. Or-or on the ground! [Yes, that is a novelty to Bilbo, unless you mean comfortable naps by the riverside.]

[ and merry will just. be laughing a bit, now. ] If you think those are only the dangers of adventuring, then you, my good lad, haven't adventured enough.

[Bilbo supposes maybe he ought to try to steer hobbits like this in the more...leisurely direction

I should hope I won't, thank you! And I'll have you know I'm quite mature! Lad! Really! [Huffs. He might also be trying to stand up just a little bit taller, as if those centimeters matter]

Mature? Really? Have you come of age yet?

Of course I have! I'd think that's rather obvious! [Bilbo tries to cut an impressively mature figure here]

By way of what, may I ask? [ because merry... looks more experienced than you do at this stage, bilbo ]

Well, to...to...any hobbit who knows anything about anything! [Stuttering in indignation. Bilbo's very good at it]

Then I suppose you can turn back time! [And here he was thinking he was older than this stranger. Somehow he keeps thinking this one would get along with that odd Mr. Baggins. The other one]

[ merry will just. ignore what you said for now, because he will be looking at you realllllly closely. ] In fact, I don't think you're a Hobbit I've seen before. [ the shire may be a big place, but everyone knew almost everyone else there - it's quite hard to meet an unfamiliar hobbit, unless they're from some place else entirely! ]

[Bilbo has to say, he's not very keen on the idea of hobbits inspecting him, as if there's something wrong!]

I could say the same about you! [Fussily ] I'll have you know that I've lived in Bag End for years! I'm not - not some newcomer!

Bag End! [ SCOFF ] See, I am quite familiar with those who live at Bag End and you, sir, are most assuredly not among them.

Oh yes I am! I'm Bilbo Baggins and I can tell you without a doubt that I've lived there for quite some time! [He looks like he has a mind to start shaking his finger at Merry]

Bilbo Baggins? [ why yes, he almost screeched that out loud. ] You can't be-- I mean, you're not... Bilbo?

[Bilbo winces. That is...quite an impressive set of lungs on him!] Why yes! That's me; Bilbo Baggins.

[And because he's feeling a little hurt, he's not going to say "at your service"]
