I knew Uncle Bilbo had accomplished great deeds, but seeing it for myself is far different! That dragon was frightful, though I think his gold frightened me more. For treasure to have such power...

It is a sickness. It reminds me of...foul things that I would rather forget.

[A darkness enters the small Hobbit's eyes.]

Will I be able to meet more Dwarves? I am fond of Gimli. And what of the Elves? Prince Legolas and Lord Elrond give me a good impression of them.

[A difficult truth to accept for the proud dwarf. He puts a hand on Frodo's shoulder.]

I was no King at the time. But I did not realize it. It is different for us who had seen the stone embedded in the throne for so many years. To have the chance to reclaim it...

[It was too important a task to ignore. Or dismiss easily.]

[He hesitates before laying his hand on top of Thorin's. His index finger is missing on that side.]

You are a King. It is in your blood. What changes is if you are a good King or not.

[Thorin has the heart to be a great King, stone or no stone.]

Uncle respected you from the beginning.

[Thorin had thought very little of Bilbo at their first meeting.]

I did not.

At the beginning, I did not think him capable of surviving just outside his front door.

[Smirk. How wrong he was.]

We Hobbits are capable of far more than we realize.

[Or want to realize.]

Those of us who do go on long adventures are ostracized, though.

Ah. The black sheep of the family, as it were?

[Thorin would think it more a loss on the part of the 'normal' hobbits that they don't get to participate in such adventures. But he's not one to settle down anywhere.]

And what will become of you here and now, Master Baggins?

[ringoffire]

Yes. [He doesn't look apologetic, though.] Uncle had fun with them. I'm sure I will too.

[Ah. The big question.]

I will live in the same house as Uncle for now. Then he and I have been given permission to sail to Valinor with the Elves, so...we will.

[onewhodares]

[Too bad. Frodo won't find any reason to visit Erebor as that's in the opposite direction of the Elves.

Maybe Thorin would have to find a way to visit Hobbiton instead.]

Does he fare well, our burglar?

[ringoffire]

The Ring...affected him. It wore on him over the years. He looks much older and his mind isn't what it used to be.

But he is Bilbo. I will take care of him. [Because his Uncle is the one who showed he cared when everyone else wanted to kick Frodo out.]

[onewhodares]

[His dear friend had gotten old. Thorin is quiet for a moment.]

Indeed you will...or you will answer to some angry dwarves.

[ringoffire]

I would be angry with myself. [He understands, Thorin.] He has been nothing but good to me. When the rest of the family turned their backs on me, he stepped in and gave me a good home.

[onewhodares]

He is a remarkable hobbit indeed. Give him my best wishes when next you see him.

I shall. He will be happy you think so highly of him.
