[Jean returns the smile, her voice taking on a more teasing tone as she tries to lighten the mood a little:] Well, I guess we can't all be perfect. [And yet, so much respect there. There are few people Jean thinks of as highly as she does Charles Xavier.]
I figure its better to nip those rumors in the bud now rather than later. [He says in return, kidding that some of the students tend to put him on a pedestal.]
[He rubs his chin as if considering the offer.] That could help. Something simple? Mass telepathic message perhaps? [He pretends to put up the words in midair with one hand.]
Charles Xavier is not perfect

[Jean smiles, nodding her head enthusiastically in response.] Mass telepathic message, over... brunch, perhaps? I figure if you're going to break that kind of news, it's best to cushion the blow with eggs benedict and Belgian waffles.
Believe me, I consider myself very lucky. I'm just not so sure this is the result of 'good' luck. Not entirely sure it's bad luck, either, maybe it's somehow both.
Eh, no such thing as "good or bad". It's all just all just a roll o' the dice, this decision over that one, an' every other wee thing that'll make us a hero or a villain ta the world. As if we'd ever get a bloody say in the matter.
[Jean is quiet as she listens to him speak, nodding slowly in understanding as the corners of her lips twist into a smile.] Thank you. That actually helped. Always helpful to have someone knock some common sense into you.
Always a pleasure, luv. Most wouldn't know it ta look at me, but I've learned a thing or two about power an' choices. How the world sees us, an' all o' that self-examination bollocks.
[After all, David spent most of his teen years as an unintentional villain, a prisoner of powers he couldn't hope to control. Spending time in Tibet as the guest of Merzah the Mystic helped put a lot of that part of his life in perspective, too.]
Helps when your da is the closest thing mutantkind has to a bloody living saint. Big shoes to fill, you know?
Oh, trust me. I know better than to judge a book by its cover. What's on the surface never reflects what's beneath it.
[Kind of amazing what getting away from all the craziness can do for the mind, body, and soul, isn't it? Jean had a similar experience in the White Hot Room. Tibet seems like a much better plan plan than death, though. She'll have to try that some time.]
I believe everyone is capable of a second chance, if they really want it. It's the choices that one makes, Maddie. It's all too easy to slip, to fall back into bad habits, and screw up your chances.
Yes, but you're tied to the Phoenix. You're supposed to believe in all of that second chance, life-and-rebirth crap. If you don't, then what's the point, Jean?
Some of us don't have a choice. We share the same face, you and I. Still, somehow, when they see you, you're absolved of all your sins.
Me? I'm still the woman who went crazy because her husband left her for her genetic material source.
I never said I didn't believe in second chances. I just believe that, like with most things in life, second chances don't come easy. So, here I am. Here's my chance to go back and make things right -- and I want to, I want to fix it all, and to give everyone I love a better life -- but I can only do so much.
I don't see you that way. I don't exactly see myself the way they see me, but that's besides the point.

[Ever the optimist.]

Thank you, Jean. Though I will admit not every day is the easiest to keep such an outlook.

Too big.

Pity that so few of us are ever actually rewarded it.
