Man, it sure feels good to get to stretch my legs again... how long's it been? Aw, I didn't mean it like that... don't be sorry, mun. It's okay - really. I'm just glad you let me stick around with the other guys. I been keepin' up with my training an' all in the meantime, y'know, not to let myself get all rusty. I think Doc would be pretty proud a' me. ...Gee, I sure wish I could see him again. It just ain't the same without 'im, y'know?

So does this mean you're gonna look at those old comics again?

...Not that I think you shouldn't, but... well, they ARE kinda embarrassing.

[Mac's used to his world being full of asses and accidental elbows-to-the-face so this is a nice little change of pace, rhyme not intended.]

Aw man, Pikachu! [He met you in Smash, you adorable-but-deadly guy, and he can't help beaming like a dork.] Long time no see! How y'doin'? Still givin' other guys a run for their money?

Sure has, sir! [He smiles ruefully, rubbing at the back of his head.] I'm sorry... it's just been so long an', uh, I hate to say it, but I think I might a' forgotten your name.

Y... You don't remember me?

[It doesn't occur to him that this Mac might be a different version. =|]

I'm sorry... [The kid feels all sorts of guilty.] D'you know where's the last place we met up?

Smash Academy. Unless...

[Oh. Right. Multidimensional and all that jargan.]

Er, sorry. It must have been a different... you.

Oh. [...] Yeah, I met a different me once. It was real weird, but kinda cool, too. [Oh right, this fella's sad. Mac's face falls.] Hey, y'know? Maybe this other me'll come by to say hello again. I'm guessin' you guys were friends, an' me, I'd wanna check in on the people close to me.

I've actually never met another me. Just someone who looks very similar but wasn't related. Now that was weird.

[He sighs]

Yeah, we were friends... I do hope I bump into him. My mun misses that place.

Huh. [He rubs at his neck again, looking sheepish as if this is all his doing.]

Well, if I ever see a guy who looks and sounds like me, I'll make sure to tell him all about you. What's your name again?

[Raikov can't help but smile at the gesture. It's endearing.]

Thank you. My name's Ivan Raidenovitch Raikov.

Wow, that's one heck of a name! [And he means it in the most admiring way possible.] It's nice meetin' you Mr. Raikov... well, meetin' you all over again, I guess!

[Surely this is just a joke--it's been so long that he doesn't expect to see this friend again.]

Mac! Hey, pal, is that really you?

Firo! [His eyes just seem to grow wider and that smile broader with every passing second.] I can't believe it!

[Screw what people think, he's closing in for a hug that's not one of those shoulder-bumping-weaksauce sorts, but the full blown chest-to-chest or chest-to-whatever-body-part-he-lines-up-with hugs, his eyes closed. Firo's been missed.] It really is you! Man, are you a sight for sore eyes.

[Firo laughs in pure, giddy joy and returns the hug like he's trying to squeeze the life out of Mac.]

Hey, not everybody got to take a vacation, all right?

I--

[I missed you.]

I've been wonderin' where the hell you've been!

[There comes a point when society says men should let go and step back and possibly pretend that that public display of affection never happened. Fuck that noise. Society's going to have have to deal with the fact that he hasn't seen his friend in ages. All their differences are put aside in this one joyful moment that brings tears to his eyes - but he's always been a real softie at heart.

He sniffs a bit, unable to help it anymore than he can help the breathless, shaky little laugh at the sound of Firo's own laughter.

Been cooped up in my mun's head for so long I almost thought I was never gettin' out of there. Nah-- [He pulls back carefully, looking up into his face.] I'm just kiddin', it wasn't that bad. You wouldn't believe how much food's up there, all kinds, too. Doc woulda loved it. [A beat.] But it's sure great seein' you again. How you been, huh?

[Normally Firo'd be right there on society with this, but now isn't a normal moment.]

Geez, I wish I coulda' come in there and sprung you. Prison's still prison.

[His smile falters at the question, but he's quick to recover. He just wished he didn't have to lie so early in their reunion.]

I've been fine. It's a little less fun without some people--

[He goes to rap his knuckles on Mac's head. ]

--but I've been keepin' busy.

[He swats Firo's hand aside playfully. Firo means well, so it's like having an older brother, he's guessing.]

So, like, with sparrin', or goin' to important meetings lookin' real sharp?

[He backs off--for now.

His smile freezes when Mac presses more. How does he even explain what he's been doing?]

Well, uh, I've got some a' the first, but not really much a' the second one. But what about you? Your trainin' goin' all right?

Yeah, I been keepin' up with it... [He falters, searching Firo's face a moment, scratching his head.] Hey, is... everything okay?

[The guy looks a little uncomfortable, but maybe it's just him. ~~or maybe it's gas? it's gas, isn't it.~~]

'S fine. Just the usual stuff, you know? Havin' to go other places and all.

[He shrugs. As much as he complained about Luceti, some places are much worse.]

And I just missed you.

I guess it is kinda neat--I never woulda' thought it was possible before. It's, uh... it's not all that exciting, though.

You kiddin'? You're in a place only a few people been to fulla weird floatin' rocks and planets and all kinds of aliens! That sounds plenty cool to me!

[Firo grins.]

I did meet an alien. He was all icy and stuff--nice guy, though.

For real? What did he look like? Big grey head and bug eyes or somethin'?

Not one bit! He was really tall--huge!--and all shiny and stuff.

Really? ...Huh. So did he look kinda human or what?

...Sorta. Like, really tall and all thin, but basically shaped like one. His face was kinda different, though--I don't think he had ears or a nose.

I wonder what he'd think if he saw some a' the aliens in the movies, y'know? Those big black ones that bleed acid and stuff, now that's scary. Hope there ain't nothin' like 'em out there.

Who knows? I never got to ask him.

I think he might be offended, though. Apparently people were pretty bad to him.

Oh. [His smile drains from his face.] That's awful.

Yeah. That's how those bastards are, though.

[He sees that frown and nudges Mac's shoulder with his fist.]

Hey, don't look so down about it. They're not messin' with him anymore.

[His face brightens some at that playful, Doc-like nudge.] I know... I jus' hope he has it a lot better now.

[It sucks when people are all up in your grill about something, especially if you can't help it.]

[Firo shrugs; it's not a cavalier one but an uncomfortable one.]

Don't pout at me, but... I'm not too sure. He disappeared a little bit ago and I'm not sure what's waitin' for him. But there's nothin' we can do about it, so.

[If anything, Firo's the one who's pouting now. As much as he tries to sound dismissive, he really does feel for the guy.]
