O-oi... C'mon now, mun! Don't give me that face. You're the one who suddenly decided bringing me out on my birthday is a good idea. And you know, it's totally your fault you're almost out of time now. You've watched my past so often but you still cry over them. Geez... you're a worse crybaby than Luffy.

[Nope, not admitting seeing the happier times with his brothers makes his heart ache. And evil mun isn't even telling him if Ace and Luffy made it safely out of the fire, dammit. He just hopes they did and got his letter before he set out.]

Well, it's still my birthday wherever you are. You better have good plans for me at least, as a gift. And you know what I mean! I want to see Ace and Luffy again.

[Pause.] Wait, why are you making me choose between the Gate and that galleon? [He spent the days after the fire locked up in his room. Nothing special~~/horrible~~ happened. Besides his bid for freedom, of course. Unless...

Similar? But isn't Ace's dream to become a pirate so famous everyone knows his name? [That's what Ace said the day they toasted their brotherhood. Did it change after Sabo left?]

Whoa, that many?! And they haven't sent you up the walls yet? ..... You're a great man, Marco. [Respect.]

Something like that.... [Wry grin.] I think he just wanted a family too. That guy... he tends to get wrapped up in thinking he knows how the world is, and it takes him awhile to realize something might be different.

[Laughs.] Oh they drive me crazy all the time. They talk back and they're sometimes idiots, but I love them all to death.

[...He tries to understand that, he really did. But that's slightly too deep for a ten year old brain who only knows a ten year old version of that jaded guy you're talking about. He does get this:]

I guess I can see how that could be part of Ace's dream. All of us want to find somewhere to belong to and be accepted. That's why we became brothers, the three of us. [Smiles happily.] And looks like he found a really great family out there in the sea too!

[Oh good because Marco is just outright planning to steal Sabo. You'd think someone would have taught him that you can't steal people, but nope.]

Me too. He never stopped being a wildfire, but if you've ever seen him smile, it's worth every effort.

You know if you ever get the chance to convince your mun to come to Luceti I think we could find a special place for you in the crew, eh?

[Breaking into Oliver Twist here: Consider yourself at home, consider yourself one of the family... Marco and Sabo are clearly the Dodgers of One Piece. They should team up and ~~rule the world~~ have a ridiculous family of brothers.]

[Wildfire...? Sabo flinches minutely at the word. He recognizes distantly how that word fits Ace's very nature, and now even his DF powers, but a different wildfire's replaying itself in his mind. One where he thought both brothers were burned to ashes. Ah, but hey, awkward silence's dragging so have an awkward chuckle.] A-ah, it is. Took me months just to get him say more than two words to me, even longer to get him smiling... But yeah, it's all worth it.

In the crew...? Eh!? But... that's your family. Y-you want me to join? [All the shock. He's not used being wanted by anyone not his brothers.] ... W-well, y'know, I might actually be able to. If she gets unstuck on those sample stuff first, that is.

[They are, aren't they. They're at their best and happiest with bros around them. But no Stelly's please. That kind is no bro. B|]

[Yes. It's just extra successful thievery.]

[He noticed the flinch with a curious glance, but doesn't ask.]

A brother of Ace's is a friend of mine. [An easy going laugh.] Besides, you remind me of someone and I'm still trying to figure out who. Either way I'm pretty sure you'd be a great addition.

And I'm sure your mun will do fine, she's been doing great with you so far, eh?

[Yes, no Stelly. Sabo can share Marco's fishman brothers instead like Namur.]

[Thanks for not mentioning that, especially since Marco's next words made the horrible stuff fade back in his mind and brought the happy back.] Hahaha! Man, it's so weird to hear that. And now, Sabo just... looks stunned. He's not known for being a writer, despite it being part of his dream. He hasn't even written much when he's with Ace and Luffy (too chaotic). So hearing himself described that way (or close enough) is a BIG compliment.] ...R-really?

[Ah, yes, Haruta. Don't worry, Sabo'll be as protective of her as any of you guys. ~~Even if she can beat the crap out of him, puny boy that he is.~~]

[It's fine, they're both sharing Ace so they can share each other too. B)]

Oh, you're going to split apart from us? [Whatever thoughts Marco has on that are covered up by deadpan, though he grins at Sabo's next line.]

[Aww ;; moe. Well, just know that he's manly and badass despite being in geisha clothes and geta sandals. Also he's a bit more serious than the other Whitebeard pirates while fighting. Except for Fossa who is the most serious business while fighting.]

Yeah, he does that. Though it's pretty unfair sometimes how he could keep his secrets while being nosy about others'! [Huffs. He still remembers that beating he got from Ace.] Eh. What special circumstances?

[Yup! That's the way I pictured him too~ <3 I... have this headcanon that he's the scariest guy out of the commanders personality-wise. Like the Nami of the WB crew. 8D;]

Well Luceti has the Malnosso who kidnap people for weird things -- sometimes funny, sometimes not. But we also used to have Blackbeard -- err... an... ex-nakama of ours -- here. So we had to share things a lot more, eh. [That and Ace died. But whatever. He opts to not mention that still.]

A-ah. Thanks for that.... and for being with Ace too. [He's too grateful for more words at this point. Gratefulness for the assurance that there's a place out there where someone like him could be accepted as he is. To have somewhere to belong to, to have people caring for you is as good, if not better, as being free in Sabo's book. And for Ace, that his brother has someone so reliable to depend on.

But that story, at least, he can elaborate.]

Yeah, me and Luffy too. We're all pissed with each other that night. Then Luffy ran off to train with old man Naguri and we didn't see him for a week. But well... it's a turn for the better, in the end, since we ended up working together again to beat down the Great Tiger instead of trying by ourselves. We learned a lot besides being a pirate from that time too. But yeah, Ace probably more so. He's been real thoughtful those days.
