A knight, eh? Well, lady knight, what sort of armour and horse would you like?

[He was wondering out of curiosity more than anything. Of course, it was hardly likely that Arya would become a Banner man, since being born a girl. Yet, she could dream and Ned found it rather sweet.]

I would have armour that bore our sigil, and my horse would be strong, and fast. The best horse in all the Kingdoms. [And it's nice... to remember what her dreams had been]

The sigil of the dire wolf; our house. Aye, I'd love to see you in such an outfit. What about a white horse for a lady? [He could imagine her on a nice, white steed.]

If it's fast, then I wouldn't mind. [She rode a white horse when she traveled with the Hound. She left him to die]

Of course. Fast steeds are often useful but so is a strong, hardy mount. Fast horses are no good if they can't survive the cruel winters in the North. Sometimes having a slower horse is better than having one that's fast.

But... wouldn't a slower horse feel the cold worse?

No, not really. If it's hide is tougher, then it carries more weight, yet it's more likely to resist the biting wind. [Yes, he was trying to act all fatherly right now.]

A faster horse might use up more energy whilst running and then feel the cold more after. Does that make any sense?

[She nodded] Yes, but isn't faster better for fighting?

[winter_iscoming]

Not necessarily. Faster is usually better for sports like jousting but not for combat. Faster horses usually have thinner hides and they're legs can't cope with the rough mountain roads, as sturdier beasts can. [Yep, the horse talk was becoming a nice conversation.]

You're better off with a horse that's equal in both speed and strength.

[She considers this. This... wasn't actually anything that she'd learnt in her time lost, and the information will probably be useful] Then I'd like a horse like that.

Then, perhaps one day, you'll have one. [He rested his hand on her right shoulder and smiled down at her.] What will you do about marriage? Will you wish to marry a prince and have children?

Most princes are idiots. [Or worse. She had thought she found a family; with Gendry; and that when they found Robb it would continue but...] I won't marry. I'll be the Lady Knight, protecting the land.

Arya, not all princes are idiots; only usually ones that are Lannisters. [He laughed softly at that. They were as bad as one another when put together.]

Lady knight of the realm of Winterfell? A noble title, my lady. How many guards and nobles will you have under you?

[She will just deftly avoiding mentioning the Lannisters, by grinning brightly instead] As many as is possible.

Right. Well, what do you think your sister will think of all this? Don't you think she'll be jealous that you'll be a lady knight and she won't? I'm guessing you'd want her to clean your room everyday, eh? [Now, he was teasing.]

Well, she'll be off being a Lady, she won't have time to worry about me.

What of Nymeria? Ladies aren't supposed to have dire wolves running around with them all day. What will you do with her? [He wondered why she would do with the wolf, once all grown up.]

[Okay, that pang hurt] Nymeria will be with me in battle. Knights can have a direwolf running into fight alongside them.

You know what? You're right. Since, your armour will bear our house, then you should have a dire wolf alongside you also. I was just curious, love, I meant no harm. [He gave her shoulder a soft squeeze.]

She won't be allowed. At King's Landing. [Part of her wants to warn her father - damn what her mun says about 'spoilers' - to let him know so he can avoid what's to come. But... there's something... Acting like she was as she was back then? It's something she needs] The Queen doesn't like them, does she?

I don't know, love. I don't see why you can't have Nymeria at King's Landing, if she behaves herself and keeps out of people's way. [If he had his own way, he would let Arya take her wolf anywhere with her.]

The Queen looks scared whenever one of them passes her. [That was true, she remembered that. She wouldn't mention remembering her ordering Lady's death though; her Father doesn't need that]

I think she's more jealous than scared. We're house Stark and the dire wolf is part of us; no one can take that away from us. [Especially not a Lannister.]
