I have to wonder if you value your life? I do not take kindly to my time being wasted. Unlike my son, I do not dabble with humans.

(Not that she blames Sesshomaru, but it is a strange and noteworthy habit of his.)

Speak swiftly and well and I will consider sparing you.

(She stays seated, her claws sliding across the smooth surface of the large Meido Stone fastened around her neck.)

Or perhaps not. I don't feel magnanimous.

Oh dear, have you been caught in a poor mood today? I could swear that I've seen a far kinder side to you.

[He teases only because he feels he can get away with it. ~~Is that a good idea?~~]

Then again, I know how very valuable your time is.

(He is one of the ~~only~~few that can get away with teasing her. Her painted lips curl playfully and she rises to greet him.)

Once. (She observes him, a flash of emotion turning her eyes to a soft gold.) You left my company long ago.

(Because he died.)

Yours is not?

One's time becomes less of a commodity after death. Especially after one becomes acquaintances with a human "player."

[He moves closer to her as he speaks, but makes no move past those few nearing steps. His expression softens much more; but then he was the more compassionate of the two, was he not? It's probably what brings his next comment:]

I think it's rather amusing, the humans thinking they've such a full understanding of our motivations and experiences. You can't tell me you don't feel the same? I know you have a sense of humor in there somewhere.

[A twisted, sometimes cruel sense of humor, but a sense of humor all the same.]

The decision was yours. Was there no way to save yourself? (So reckless. She will never understand his attachment to humans.) A mortal's lifespan is nothing. These players imagine they have control but even I can see that it wavers.

(One perfectly arched eyebrow rises and she drops her hand away from the Meido Stone. Yes, she has kept it and, yes, she has used it for Sesshomaru's gain.)

A beast should know its master. Laughter might encourage them to further heights of idiocy.

The decision was mine, yes, even over such a fleeting thing.

[The male youkai lets his eyes wander to the stone, and he wonders whether it would be to his detriment to question on any subjects concerning it. He decides, for the moment, to let it go.]

It seems that my decisions yet perplex you, my dear. [Not surprising. He infuriates everyone with his circular lessons and unwanted inheritences, etc.] Still, I'd prefer to laugh than to disdain. There's no point in being haughty when a person is only a person.

[Now, were they still talking about human players?]

I mourned. (It isn't something she would normally admit to, yet losing him weighed heavily upon her. She worries for Sesshomaru even though there are times she doesn't understand him very well either.)

He shares your love of them. Your son has acquired a girl pup. (A girl who aided him in acquiring a merciful heart.) I do not understand the draw.

(But that doesn't matter. She likes seeing Sesshomaru happy.)

We are not the same as - (This argument will go nowhere. She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and closes the distance between them.) Do you have a lesson for me?

[No argument of theirs will go anywhere. At least not anywhere the Taishou does not wish it to. He doesn't seek to create any ill feelings between them.

At least...not any further ill feelings. He's sure he could have done a few things differently.]

I'm pleased to know that our son has acquired a close bond. That you are able to disclose this to me tells me that perhaps I've already begun to teach you. In a way.

[He reaches a hand out, taking hold of his former lady's pale fingers, gripping gently.]

You mourned me. I am very sorry that you did, but to make an example of such a feeling...humans feel such despair over the passing of their close ones. They have familial bonds, just like we do, you know.

[A pause.]

I am sure that if you've aided Sesshoumaru's growth with that Meido stone, then you might have some idea of why he has taken in the girl.

(Truly she feels very little emotion. He is the first to incite confusing feelings in her and it amuses her - somewhat - that Sesshomaru has inherited his odder traits. Maybe she is kinder than she imagines, but in the demon world, kindness is hardly a gift. Cruelty seems to aid in survival far better - though she borders on callous rather than cruel.)

Do you think I deny him? I have never turned him away. (She's just not a warm mother. Her fingers entwine with his without a single pause. No matter how much they argue, there is affection there.) Hm.

(While she doesn't like being compared to mortals, it is food for thought.)

He sees her as his progeny? A child he did not father? (Pure demons go through mating cycles. Sesshomaru is young yet; he may not have experienced such a change. Which makes his parental instincts towards Rin all the stranger.) I have never seen him so distraught as he was over her death.

[Kagura knows that she should bow or even kneel when standing in front of this woman, but like always, she chooses to ignore the social hierarchy as long as it doesn't interfere with her life span. To be far, she's standing a bit far back, but the way she looks head on to the woman shows her boldness.]

I can see you had an influence on his personality, Lady.

By him you surely mean Sesshomaru. (Pride is one of her more pronounced traits, but she doesn't let it control her. If the woman doesn't wish to kneel, so be it. Kagura might find her attention fleeting.)

He spent the most time with me.

Yes.

[This woman reminds her of him so much, she can't help but smile devilishly. ]

You must be proud of him for becoming so strong. I'm sure he will have an excellent choice of mates, when he wants one.

He is young still. (And prone to being a naive pup. But she does love him.) Acquiring a mate does not concern him as of yet.

(Then again...)

Do you wish to be pursued?

Ha! He wouldn't have me. I'm not royalty, anyways.

[The answer is yes, but no use in that. She had died, after all. Maybe she had a chance in this strange world, but he would find someone who was worthy here.]

That isn't the only criteria. (Royalty is hard to come by and she is fond of seeing him content.)

I am also dead. In our world, he would be alone. And here is useless.

[Her voice is bitter.]

He will find someone more suitable.

Tell me more of yourself.

(What was that about being dead? And bitter? She ignored that part.)

You are not the first to pursue him.

(Or wish to. Her son is a handsome demon.)

Did you not hear me, Lady Inunokimi?

[She has no idea why this lady was so persistent.She turns her back to the woman, undoing her kimono to show her the scar that defined her life.]

I am an incarnation of Naraku. He has tried to absorb your son. My only wish is to be free from Naraku. Is that a proper introduction, my Lady?

I have ears. (Finely tuned ones at that.) A demon of his ilk could not absorb Sesshomaru.

(Girl, are you crazy?)

What would you do if you obtained your freedom?

I would roam this world. Eventually I might stay in one place, but I am the wind. No one will hold me against my will.

[She covers herself, turning to the woman again. ]

I would get as far away from Naraku as possible.

The wind... (Her gaze never leaves Kagura's face, assessing her; taking stock.) Are you ever apart from him? A demon born of another's body shares...traits.

If you're asking if I am ever absorbed by him, the answer is no. The only trait I share with that man is the scar on my back and his scent.

Time would tell, yet your time has ended. (She glances down at the Meido Stone.) Death is part of life - even for the purest of demons. Did Sesshomaru mourn your passing?

He came to see me as I passed, and would allow no one to say I had died for nothing, or that I was foolish.

[For a second, she actually smiles. It's gone as fast as it came, and she looks at the stone.]

You haven't said much about yourself. Why are you so interested in a dead woman? I cannot give you descendants.

Uncommon for him. (Certainly noteworthy. She rises and takes in Kagura's appearance.) You are the progeny of a half-demon.

(Much like Sesshomaru's half-brother. Not that she has met Inuyasha.)

He has time enough for descendants. Not all couplings are so mechanical. (Her talons shine as she waves a hand dismissively.) Sesshomaru's happiness matters to me. I am his mother.

[She holds back a growl at the word "progeny"--she hates being referred to in terms of Naraku, and her face contorts to show that. But at the mention of 'happiness', Kagura sneers.]

If I had brought him happiness, he would have freed me from Naraku. Instead, he turned me away.

(She lets those words sink in and she examines them thoughtfully. Did he turn her away out of disdain or something else?)

What would Naraku have done to you if he had discovered you wanted to free yourself?

He would have killed me.

[She shudders.]

He would have tortured me first.

Then Sesshomaru did you a favor.

Your son could have easily killed him.

[Her eyes narrow, mouth turning up into a snarl.]

I would have never had to worry about him finding out. I would have given him the Shikon shards. Anything, if he had asked for it.

Some foes are not easily extinguished. Unless he had certainty, he would not have put you in irrevocable danger.

(Demons like Naraku have no issue harming extensions of their main foe.)

He would not have used the shards. (Her nose wrinkles.) We have some pride.

....I doubt I meant that much to him.

[But even as she says that, there's uncertainty in her voice. She's mulling over it in her head, trying to find proof that the woman is wrong.]

I do not know for sure. (It's not her business beyond motherly curiosity.) He takes after me in most ways, but I see his father in him as well.

Hm.

He is awfully fond of that human pup.
