The house where you grew up is gone. Your sister is in South America. Your uncle might murder you for a nickel. There's no home here. You stay because you want to stay. That's who you are.

[Derek just lifted an eyebrow because yes, that was all true. But Beacon Hills was his home - their home. And even if he was human, even if he was dying, he was going to make sure he helped protect the people who also called it home]
