Whoa, whoa, slow down, when was the last time you did this? I know you played me before but things changed, alri-- yes, you watched the movie three times, and I'm proud of you for that-- but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
... and I was proud of that moment too, but, really?
[Giving that username a sideglance.]
That's the best you can do?

That's the best you can do?

[SHRUG. As frustrating as he finds it himself, he's...er, trying to learn how to deal with it.]
And unfortunately, we get dragged along for the ride. No matter how much we protest.

[Sarcasm, of course. But it's mildly amused sarcasm.]

[Especially certain ones...]

[Here they are. Stuck with muns with levels of stubbornness he's never even seen.]

Funny shaped rock.
...socks?
All fear the viking queen Socks!

[That's kind of the horrifying thing about Tuffnut.]

And Hiccup would be all "I have to do something!" And fly off while his dad yells.

And what solved that problem? Fire~

[Not to mention taking out someone's foot but--]
If you're feeling adventurous to go fight trolls though, I won't stop you.
[How did she get into this conversation with one of the twins. Well, at least it's not the weirder twin.]
no subject
And she talks!

[Somewhere there's a rimshot playing]
...and one of them steals numbers.

[He points up.]
Not minding this one as much. It has a nice edge of triumph, y'know? [His voice is very wry.] Acknowledgement of how far I've come and how much less concave my chest is compared to how it was in years past.
no subject
[... Hiccup, who are you trying to impress. S-hrug.]
How far you've come? I see no difference.
no subject
Thank you for that bracing jolt to the ol' self esteem.
no subject
Weeeeell, okay, maybe a little difference.
no subject
[He lifts up one of his armor flaps from his arms and flexes.]
Eh? Eh? Look, that's almost a muscle. I now have proof that things other than skin are actually attached to my bones.
[So proud of that little not-bone bump. So proud.]
no subject
Yeah, you know what, if I squint hard enough, there's a little bit of a built up on the chest, like you said!
Right--
[-- she might have raised a hand to admire said newly formed body improvements.]
-- here!
[Oops, no, wait, she just pushed the button to activate the fin again.]
no subject
Walked right into that one.
[He starts laughing as he goes to wind it back up again.]
Yooou are going to regret that some day. One day, it'll break and the spring will just pop out and go sproingoing right at your nose.
[Which he boops with a finger.]
After all that abuse and misery, it will have its revenge!
no subject
Mhm, I'm sure Thor's going to bring down his wrath on me. Though it's your wing suit, if something goes wrong with its calibration thing or whatever, it'd be your fault, not mine!
no subject
Come on, Astrid, it's not even like your opportunities are limited. There's my nose - prime poking material there. My sides are on the ticklish side - so you have these whole regions, on both sides, that you can work with.
[He gestures to each of his sides with his hand, as if putting them on display.]
The belly button. Hard to find under all the leather but hey, there you go, that's an adventure, right?
[He waves his hand around, gesturing to the whole of him.]
There's a whole lot more going on than just this.
[He holds his finger over the mechanism, somewhat unwisely. Namely because if Astrid moves quick enough she can poke it again by pushing his finger into it this time.]
no subject
Oh, I'm well aware of what my options are! There's just something fun about the surprise that comes with that particular one...
-- like that!
[Viking reflexes are clearly best suited for poking your boyfriend, and her hand darts out to push his finger into it. Bad move.]
no subject
You know what? I give up. I'm just going to leave it out all the time so everyone thinks I'm a very odd-looking dragon or a very large, creepy-looking fish with a face and not only will all poking-the-button privileges be revoked for the foreseeable future, you'll also have to live with the reputation you have a boyfriend who's a fish-man.
[Overwhelmed by the warm bubbles fizzling up in his chest, he snakes a hand around her waist but instead of pulling her in close, he uses it to pull himself closer.]
C'mere, you.
[He just hovers there in her orbit, arm around her waist. He likes his occasional moments of being the assertive one and yanking her to him - who doesn't want to be swept up in the arms of the person they care about every now and again? He knows that she likes it sometimes, when he makes it clear exactly how much he loves having her close.
But most of the time, his gestures to her are more subtle and gentle and involve him gravitating towards her instead, practically throwing himself into her orbit, without doing anything more than that. In some ways it's more intimate, a nonverbal way of saying 'I'm yours. I'm right here and I'm yours.' She can choose to kiss him or shove him away or pull him closer and he likes nudging close so she knows he wants to show affection but is otherwise leaving that choice to her.
His forehead just barely brushes against hers and right now he just hovers there in front of her, smiling. Then he puckers his cheeks and makes fish lips at her.]
See? I'll completely play it up.
no subject
The sudden movement does elicit a surprised squeak from her in the middle of chuckling, though if there's anyone out there on Berk who can catch Astrid Hofferson by surprise (may it be suddenly picking her up by dragon or by little things like this) it would be Hiccup.
She lets her laughter die down a little as she grins up at him with amusement, letting him drift close himself, and any other day she can shove him away. But once in a while it's nice to just admire that yes, he did grow, he's a few good inches taller than her now. And through the years she learned to appreciate and memorize the details of his face, from messy helmet hair, pokeable nose, all the way down to the stubble on his chin and the tiny little scar on his jaw.
Which gets slightly marred when he does the fish lips and gets her laughing again. She plants her palms at the sides of his face instead, possibly encouraging that fish face but at the same time showing him that this is not a Shoving Away day.]
So, what then? Do we start calling you Fishcup now?
no subject
No need to! My name's Hiccup Haddock, remember? In fact, maybe I've been a fish-man all along.
[No more fish faces now, though. He leans in even closer, pressing his forehead against hers, smiling one of those soft, tender smiles he fires off in her direction. His free hand joins his other hand around her waist.]
no subject
[And where would they be then. Her hands exert less force on his cheeks, cradling his face instead. His silliness is the only silliness she's got time for. And boy, does she love it. She lets out one final breathy laugh, shaking her head in amusement.]
Guess that just leaves the other option then. Odd looking dragon it is.
[Her eyes take in his face again, and she lets her grin melt into a smile as she bumps her nose very briefly against his.]
I wonder if it's been tamed yet...
no subject
There are so many dragon-riding jokes he could go for here. So many. But he's not Tuffnut. And he's definitely not ruining the moment by giving her reason to punch him, even if he sometimes gets a laugh out of giving her reasons to.]
You - as in you specifically, not just anyone - are certainly welcome to try.
[As if she needs to when he's already practically eating out of her palm.]
Could take a lot of work though. I'm the kind of dragon that needs lots of affection to really bond with someone, you know? I'm fine on the raw fish, you don't have to worry about that, but hugs, occasional pets on the head...
no subject
Hm. Sounds like this new Hiccup-species is a challenge. I'll take a whack at it. Let's see... hugs, head pats...
[Her grin comes back as her words drift off. Sounds lacking.]
... is that all though?
no subject
[He puckered his lips. Then, for just a moment, he sucked in his cheeks to do the fish lips again.]
no subject
Hiccup! Alright, maybe I should just leave it to the others. Fishlegs, Snotlout perhaps, one of the twins... I already got another dragon I'm taking care of.
no subject
Really, you're the only one talented enough to bring peace to our world.
no subject
[She still is, only this time, less dragons involved.]
no subject
Second of all, you're one of the best dragon riders on all of Berk, queen of the dragon races.
[He leans close again, rubbing the side of his face against hers. Yes, that's a nuzzle, deal with it.
His body language makes it look as if he wants to just melt against her. That is some 'I want to cuddle' body language there. It's practically nonverbal begging for a kiss or a hug.]
Trust me, you've got this one well in hand.
no subject
Queen of races sound nice. I'll take it. Fine, I'll take the job.
[He sure is persuasive.]

at nightis that it is easy to still look pretty nonchalant even when the corner of one's mouth is quirking into a contained smirk.]Yeah, Mundane, I mean, it's not like cute dragon-riding chicks aren't badass or anything. There's totally no reason to get ahead of yourself.
[But no, seriously...]
Anyway, trust me on this when I say that there were probably half a dozen shittier names that your mun could have settled on. I'm talking names so shitty that they're practically crusted to the bottom of the port-o-john and it's probably going to take a nuclear bomb just to start chipping it away. It's like, oh my god I do not know what these people were eating but, holy hell, someone needs to get the CDC the fuck in here STAT.
So... There's that to be thankful for, I guess.
no subject
Uh, thanks... I think?
... from the way you described it, I don't think I'm so eager to find out what kind of names those are though.
