[The mun hasn't pointed out to Jack yet that he's from the end of the first season and doesn't know all the dark things that are yet to come. As far as Jack knows, all of them are still alive and waiting for him. The last he remembers is running for the TARDIS. The Year That Never Was didn't happen yet. Who knows if that was kind or cruel?]

What about Owen and Toshiko? Or Gwen?

[Jack sighs, trying to reason with a higher power.]

The Doctor is here. That's good, but he's not the Doctor I remember. He's different, skinny and with rooster hair. Where's the leather and big ears? Where's Rose? What happened that he isn't telling me?

I like the one right after the ears best, myself. He mourned what was done to me in a way he hadn't since we were children.

[That's the problem. He doesn't know. In Jack's view of matters, he was last running after the TARDIS. Gwen wasn't engaged. John Hart hadn't arrived yet. Owen and Toshiko were still alive. The 456 hadn't returned.]

I've been in worse places, although usually there was bondage involved. Being a little behind the times is tame by my usual standards.

[For Jack, that sort of says it all. There are closets here that give him most anything he wants. Most. What he really wants can't be found there.]

We're overrun with piglets right now, but I'm sure that's temporary. [Meaning, he hopes.]

How could I have missed that? [That actually sounds bad to Jack, but Owen running was in a whole category of hilarious of its own.]

They're war piglets, about the size of one of Gwen's shoes. All they do is snort around and follow someone they like.
