I heard Forever Autumn and this happened. Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

How many of us will you do this to before you are finally satisfied? Inevitably dragging us from our rest, without a word of apology or explanation, every time you happen to be reminded we exist?

Regardless of how easy it is to hear me narrating these lines, the fact remains that I cannot and will not be not a strong enough character for you to play consistently. And if the choice must be between oblivion and this half-life, caught between the ruins of London and this uneasy place of electrical signals and future science, I would rather you left me to sleep. At least then, I might finally find Carrie, if only in dreams.

"Not the first or last invasion London is going to have, I'm afraid. At least, where I come from."

"You will...overcome. I guess that's the best word I can use to describe it. But, an old friend of mine told me that the worst times make the best of humanity. And that's what you're best at. Enduring, overcoming. Especially you Brits- no offense."

"At first, yes. You're fighting against something you've never conceived of. But, you'll find a way. You always do. Maybe not humanity as a whole, maybe it only takes one or two men standing up to fight, give hope to the rest."

I do apologise for her.

I do so understand that, darling. These mundanes do not understand that we have lives to lead, and we are not simply their playthings.
