I do not believe it was necessary to reveal my true career so easily.  In fact, it shouldn't have been revealed at all, even though people did suspect.  You fault also, I believe.  Please try to keep in mind that I have a NOC for a reason.  It has served me well over the years.  There is no reason why that should change even if I'm not in the normal world.  That still doesn't even sound right, by the way.  An impossibility that I didn't want to know was actually possible, thank you.

There were other options in these moments. Like observing for at least a day before being so vocal.

Can I ask - why do you choose to be a spy?

[ A frank question, and one with, actually, a little bit of charm to it. He's calm, he's unafraid, he's got that relaxed-but-ready posture of someone who is aware both of his own surroundings and his likely ability to cope with any obstacle that comes up. ]

I'm not sure that's a question that can truly be answered sufficiently. There is never simply one reason, and reasons can change over the years.

[Lately she's been wondering whether it is all worth it too. It's not like the agency is particularly supportive.]

There are times that I wish I could as well.

I spent over a year in a place that wasn't the normal world, and I think the number of times my actual carer was disclosed was about five times. Five too many, but I think only two people remembered -- one of them was US government agent and the other was a vampire who was my best friend there. At least there wasn't too much concern to be had in those cases.

You'd think the people who send us to these other worlds would respect the fact that working in intelligence agencies isn't something you go advertising.

[Well, that at least makes her feel a little bit better. Maybe she hasn't gone completely crazy after all.]

Thankfully, as in your case, I don't believe very many people there are concerned about it. There are far more important things to focus on. Of course the fact that magic seems to reign supreme there tends to help with that.

[It also makes the thought of her going insane not seem so bad. At least if she's insane she doesn't have to deal with being totally unqualified to protect herself.]

Or they could simply not send us at all. I have more important assignments than to my abductors that I am already married and therefore do not have any interest in marrying their prince.
