Yo Ho Yo Ho
Wait– hold on. You're serious.
You're gonna make me a pirate?
[He stares off-screen for all of four seconds, rolling his eyes as he leans back, hands flying up to meet his face, legs stumbling a bit to keep his balance. A heavy sigh is heard, partially filtered through the thin spaces between his fingers.]
Yeah, I get the reference.
But you know, if you're going through with this, you could've set things up sooner. [Arms wave out to either side of him in slight exasperation.] Or maybe at least edit something! What are you even doing right now?
...Typing.
[
]
Yeah. Sure. You got tabs open, but I don't see your fingers moving.
[HOw dare, Hiccup, HOW DARE]

... Maah. But morbid subjects like that are dull.
You say you have dragons?
[Yup, nothing suspicious about that smooth change of subject whatsoever.]
no subject
I didn't know people could do that kind of thing...
[–What the, subject what??1]
Um. Yeah, we do! It use to be a lot worst since we were fighting against them, but now? [He bobs his head, eyes darting back and forth before looking back at the giant.] There's been some changes in how we handle dragons.
no subject
[Then he figures out that answer sounds kind of heartless and mean, and decides to go for a real long-shot guess that is most likely wrong but what the hell, his world may be one of the nice ones.]
Or perhaps even befriended them?
no subject
It started with the accidental friendship, actually. Still, it's all pretty accurate.
no subject
[Not that sentient beings taming indescribably gigantic beasts was a rare thing. Kuzan here is buds with a penguin the size of a viking ship. But still, dragons had a certain reputation about them: even just imagining them tamed seemed... almost too fantastic too believe.]
I imagine they're quite the asset to your everyday life... not to mention defense of your borders.
no subject
They are. Nowadays. Before we had to keep defending against them. And while nobody got horribly injured, many of our buildings had to be rebuilt. Over and over...
[...There should also be some warnings given if Hiccup was to ever visit Kuzan and his world.]
If you don't have any dragons around in your world, is it a little less to worry about?
no subject
Well... inbetween dragons and pirates, I wonder which is preferable.
no subject
I'm guessing pirates can be just as bad?
no subject
Some of them are apartment building-sized, after all!]
... They can be. Not to say that all of them actually are.
no subject
Huh. That's very reassuring.
no subject
I'm not sure anything I say will be reassuring.
no subject
Still, I think I should thank you for some of the insight.
THANK YOU DW for not sending me a notif until now...
But I should ask one thing. What would you consider an "impressive" display of strength?
Waugh; D: bad DW!
no subject
I see. Now, I asked because what I say, I say based on my own experiences. Now, in my world...
[What happens next only takes about five seconds- five seconds for Kuzan to kneel, touch his non-gloved hand to the ground, utter-]
Ice Age!
[And create from thin freaking air a Viking Longship (he sees your clothes and guesses at your heritage, he's sharp like that) that is LONG. Like, your regular longships? 36 feet or so? This one is TRIPLE the size and impressively detailed, nothing but thick ice fashioned into a beautiful piece of handicraft.
Then he walks to it's center, and without even waiting for you to pick your jaw of the ground... he punches it. Punches right where the ice is thickest, so hard small shockwaves almost threaten to blow you back, and the damn thing splits right in half.]
... That is considered "impressive".
no subject
...
.......
Oh.
Snap.
Hiccup just stares at that icy magnificence. It's very well done and very, very detailed (wow dude you're very sharp, that just adds up) and before he can do or say anything in response, he's suddenly surprised by the punching. WHO PUNCHES ICE?!? HE'S NEVER SEEN ANYONE PUNCH ICE WITHOUT INJURING THEMSELVES. ESPECIALLY NOT A WHOLE ICE SHIP.
Now sprawled out, Hiccup pushes himself partially off of the ground, still gaping. It takes him some time to work his mouth again, nodding vigorously.]
Y-yeah, I think you won.
no subject
Nice. But I think I'd prefer understanding to 'victory'.
[And just as easily as he created the longship, he suddenly fashions a huge chair to sit on and fold his hands in front of him.]
In my world, feats like these are not common... but they are not unheard of. But from my observations different worlds have very different standards. Now, if I were to guess the most you could lift... a hundred pounds or so?
no subject
[Hiccup scrambles to his feet (or foot), dusting himself off. His brow lifts again when the chair appears.]
Anything like that is basically myth and legend in mine. I mean, sure, it happened a long time ago, but yeah – still held up there. Big things make you important and awesome.
[At the weight suggestion, however, he laughs. Weakly.]
AhhI'd say it's a little [cough] lessthanthat.
[For a second, he flexes. Nothing changes in his arm.]
no subject
... Ah. Well- take that into consideration then. Among the many different worlds some may be like yours, and some may be like mine. Some may be as strong as I, some may be weaker.
Know this, plan accordingly... and your strength will see you through After all, if your story about slaying a dragon holds true you must be no stranger to unfavorable odds.
no subject
The lesson is taken to heart as he nods, brow knitting as he thinks about what he's been told.]
Well. Unfavorable odds is right.
I'll...do whatever I can.
no subject
At any rate: Kuzan simply stands up and doffs his hat at the little boy-]
Good. I wish you luck on the seas then-
[- And sends out a whisper.
Where did this ocean even come from? Where they always in front of it? Probably, because there it is, and there- holy hell a penguin the size of a house just broke through the surface.]
You're going to need it...
[A moment passes, as Kuzan leans his head back and stares up into the sky in deep contemplation of something...]
... Maah. Did I ever ask you what your name was?
no subject
Wait, no, that's not important. He does realize that they never mentioned any names every since they started.
Hiccup blinks up at the man, eyes darting to the side briefly as he hesitates.]
Uhm.
I'm Hiccup.
[Yup.]
no subject
Kuzan.
[-And the penguin gives off what can only be described as the most bass-filled squawk any man has ever heard.]
Ah. And this is...
Napoleon Northwind. As I've just decided.
[Aaand this ques the penguin squawking angrily and throwing Kuzan off it's head, but he freezes the ocean before he can be submerged and just... kinda lays there.]
no subject
Nevermind the fact he named Toothless in a similar mannerAt the following, Hiccup nearly jumps, flinching right as Kuzan hits the
waterice.]...
Kuzan? Aah...are you...still alive?
no subject
[He stands again, scratching his head as the penguin squawks in indignation. After a period of cacaphony and mumbled apologies, the penguin falls silent. Another beat passes before it extends a flipper towards Kuzan, who proceeds to climb up the flipper and park himself on Napoleons head once more.]
I've been burned, cut, stabbed and broken more times than I care to recall. All part of what... I guess you could call an "exciting" life. I bore those scars… learned to live with them. But these places, in them we can be hurt, healed, undone and rebuilt at our mundanes will, face the impossible by breakfast, the awesinspiring by lunch and the terrifying by dinner.
[And with another pause, he removes his right boot. And in so doing he reveals that there's nothing but ice in the shape of a leg, ice that retracts and reveals... nothing.]
But we rise. We do it because that is what we do. Because that is what draws them to us. So, in the end… I’ll wish you luck, again.
Because I’ve a feeling you already have strength.
