Well, well. [You look different. But it's nice to see his favourite not-a-were-bear.] I was starting to think you'd been kidnapped by face-changers.

Almost. [And we'll just say that's the reason why he looks different for this scene and not his player being too broke to get the rest of his icons back atm sob sob.]

Good thing for me I joined up with you when I did. Turns out those small forms I picked up along the way? Came in much handier than I ever thought they would.

Yeah, I... [Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly here.] ... kind of underestimated them a little when I said that. Them hiring mercenaries wasn't really something I counted on.

Honestly, I thought they might have grabbed you for a little while there. Word got back to them I was traveling with an Imperial conjurer a lot quicker than I thought it would.

I'm not much of an illusionist, but I can be surprisingly hard to get hold of. Or so I'm told. [He's had some practice in making himself scarce. And it helps that he doesn't share the habits of Skyrim's typical conjurers. Or even advertise his school that much. Conjuration's got a poor reputation these days.]

And the nice thing about mercenaries is that they have these bouts of temporary blindness. Occupational hazard.

[Which he's cynical enough to admit is a fairly real possibility. But there's no ill will - if he were in the conjurer's boots, he'd probably do the exact same thing.

I don't recall running away from you. [He considers holding out a little now, but it could get awkward if David expects invisibility spells that aren't there.] They're nothing new, anyway. Just some old Imperial tricks... and a little conjured help.

[And that's rather flattering, not least because Felix couldn't have told them much about David's plans. He won't make a fuss about it, just grin a little.]

Keeping your distance might have been smart. You're the one they were looking for. I was kind of betting on your staying on the loose.

You didn't. [It's rare for him to feel guilty about... well, anything, so the way he shifts from one foot to the other now is new. Unwelcome. And very, very awkward.] I, er.... probably should have told you I was going to be taking off. Figured it'd just be easier for us both if I didn't, but... guess it only kind of worked out that way.

[He's not sure if Felix has been holding a grudge over it all this time, and when he sees that's not the case, his relief is practically palpable. He heaves a sigh, letting out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.]

You know me. Staying on the loose is my specialty. I'm just glad you didn't get caught up in any of the fallout.

[That's about as close to an apology as he ever gets.]

[Honestly, Felix wasn't expecting guilt. David's a pretty unrepentant survivor, and Felix isn't the type to begrudge him that. It's traditional to gripe a bit, but the moment for that is kind of past.]

[He tilts his head for a moment - then nods.]

No hard feelings, David. I know how it works when they're close on your heels. Next time just remember you're not on your own now, all right?

[No reason to mention any track record he might have in that department. He gives it a second before adding,]

Besides, I'm glad they didn't get you either. After the sellswords went, I was in serious danger of boredom.
