I know, Mun, I know. You are delighted to see other manifestations of myself come into being.

But I don't understand how you can be distressed by my acceptance of Thranduil's acknowledgement of my lower status, made even more so by the fact that I choose to step past our borders. I have always known I was not as close to starlight as a Sindarin, but I long to touch it nonetheless. And I contend that I did not abandon Legolas - he simply needed me less than the one who needed healing.

There was no choice to make.

I am a Sylvan elf. My king and prince are of the Sindarin.

[kilimanjaro]

[Yeah, that doesn't mean a lot to Kili.] So this...Sindarin is... [He laughs sheepishly, shaking his head.] I don't really understand.

[But he's trying.]

[It's alright. Elves are patient.] Amongst your people, you have a king. You and your brother are princes. Of noble birth.

To be Sindarin is to be of similar birth.

Oh. [His expression clears and he smiles, nodding.] The Sindar are royals?

[She mmms at that.] They are higher than we of the Sylvan, and they count kings and princes amongst them. Thranduil and Legolas are Sindar. But there are others higher yet.

[kilimanjaro]

What of the Sylvan, then? [Tell him everything about you, Tauriel.]

[daughteroftheforest]

I could speak of whom we are descended from but it would lack for context, I think. Another name for us is Wood Elves. A great majority of us who live in Mirkwood are such.

[Almost shyly,]

We are considered perhaps, more...fierce. Passionate, our blood runs quicker, than for the other Eldar.

[Less wise, and more dangerous, some would say.]

[Kili knows next to nothing about elvish history, so yeah, telling him who the Sylvan are descended from wouldn't tell him much at all. Maybe in time he'll be more interested in that aspect, but for now, not as much.

He listens to her intently, smiling a little at that.] You must fit in perfectly with your people, then.

I try to do them proud.

Now tell me of your family? I have met your brother of course, and well...I am acquainted with Oakenshield. [Because of reasons that are called being locked up in a Mirkwood prison, okay]. And you spoke of your mother? You clearly love her very much. It is admirable, how dwarves feel so connected to their kin.

[kilimanjaro]

[The way she changes the subject makes Kili wonder if that's something she would rather not discuss, but he doesn't push it.]

Family is more important than anything else. [He smiles.] My elder brother Fili you met, aye, and Thorin is our uncle. Mother did not come, and...most of the others are my cousins in some way or another. Bifur and Bofur and Bombur are from another clan, but they have been loyal to Thorin and near enough to kin now.

[Kili likes to talk about his family, but speaking of his mother right now only makes him miss her more.]

[Elven families love each other certainly, but there is a certain sense of restraint to them, even amongst her own.]

And you've traveled a great deal even since before joining your Company?

[See, Kili. She wants to know just as much about you as you want to know about her.]

[He nods.] Aye, we started out from Ered Luin. I have never traveled this much before. There's danger and excitement.

[Kili's eyes sparkle.] It's everything I have always dreamed of.

I too would like to see more of the world.

[The confession, once uttered, makes her feel a tiny bit guilty - after all, she is the captain of the Mirkwood Guard, and her duty is to her people.]

[kilimanjaro]

[He smiles at that.] There is no shame in that. Your people have long lives; surely you can spend a few of your many years seeing the world.

[You could join Kili. He'd be down with that.]

[daughteroftheforest]

I have a duty to my king. [Her tone is both apologetic and filled with longing. She'd join you Kili, if she thought she could.]

[kilimanjaro]

Tauriel, you have a duty to yourself as well. [Pleaaaase? Dwarf lives are so short in comparison and he won't have long, as far as Tauriel's concerned.] If you don't, you will always wish you did.

[daughteroftheforest]

[There is a lengthy pause. Then,]

Thranduil did close the doors. He would open them for Legolas, I am sure - but not for me.

[See, she's coming around to your way of thinking...]

[kilimanjaro]

[He can't help the smile that steals across his face.]

So...you may have to travel anyway.

[daughteroftheforest]

[She smiles too.] Aye.

I would not care to travel alone, though.

[kilimanjaro]

Perhaps you could find someone willing to accompany you. [Oh, he's loving this.]

[daughteroftheforest]

[Her own smile is artfully guileless.] I would be grateful for a traveling companion.

[kilimanjaro]

Might I offer myself as an option? [He grins right back at her, having far too much fun.]

[daughteroftheforest]

You might. Is such your intention? [She likes this dance.]

Mayhaps. [He chuckles.] I might consider it, were you to ask.

[daughteroftheforest]

[She doesn't have it in her to be snobbish about it.] Would you?
