I know, Mun, I know. You are delighted to see other manifestations of myself come into being.

But I don't understand how you can be distressed by my acceptance of Thranduil's acknowledgement of my lower status, made even more so by the fact that I choose to step past our borders. I have always known I was not as close to starlight as a Sindarin, but I long to touch it nonetheless. And I contend that I did not abandon Legolas - he simply needed me less than the one who needed healing.

There was no choice to make.

I suspect one might consider all elves the Elder of men. Even the Dunedain.

I am a Sylvan elf. My king and prince are of the Sindarin.

[Yeah, that doesn't mean a lot to Kili.] So this...Sindarin is... [He laughs sheepishly, shaking his head.] I don't really understand.

[But he's trying.]

[It's alright. Elves are patient.] Amongst your people, you have a king. You and your brother are princes. Of noble birth.

To be Sindarin is to be of similar birth.

[kilimanjaro]

Oh. [His expression clears and he smiles, nodding.] The Sindar are royals?

[daughteroftheforest]

[She mmms at that.] They are higher than we of the Sylvan, and they count kings and princes amongst them. Thranduil and Legolas are Sindar. But there are others higher yet.

[kilimanjaro]

What of the Sylvan, then? [Tell him everything about you, Tauriel.]

I could speak of whom we are descended from but it would lack for context, I think. Another name for us is Wood Elves. A great majority of us who live in Mirkwood are such.

[Almost shyly,]

We are considered perhaps, more...fierce. Passionate, our blood runs quicker, than for the other Eldar.

[Less wise, and more dangerous, some would say.]

[Thranduil is...mercurial, at best. So she answers honestly.]

For what it's worth, we won't forget it. [Without her--...] If I can repay you for saving my brother, I will. [Even if a part of him thinks that maybe Kili wouldn't have been injured at all, if the elves hadn't shut the gates on them, hadn't taken their weapons, hadn't imprisoned them in the first place.

As I said, there was no choice to make. I would not let him die.

There is no need for repayment. Or rather, one day I suspect, we will both be on the battlefield together, and we will do as those who would stand with each other would do.

[There's a mild arch of her brow, as if to inquire as to whether he agrees.]

Then you don't plan to take us back to Mirkwood?

[There's a faint smile, a shake of her head.]

It was not my plan when I left. And even if it had been, the doors are closed, the borders sealed.

[He wonders what she did have in mind, in that case. Kill every last orc out there and then go home? But what she has just pointed out has him raising his eyebrows.]

Even to you? [He looks thoughtful.]

That's kind of you to say, but Thranduil is still my king. In such matters, I must obey him.

[Which is to say, in other matters, she has most certainly not.]

Yes, but even a king can be wrong. Would you follow him down the wrong path if he asked. [My she is lovely. As lovely as the Lady of the Golden Wood.]

I think that would depend on how one would define 'wrong'. Thranduil cares a great deal for his people and makes his decisions with that in mind and heart. It may not always be to greater good, but I would never claim he does not consider his people first. And to care for one's people is not an un-admirable quality.
