I miss them, okay? I miss Dan. I know we only had that one thread together, but he was really nice to me, nicer than anyone's ever been. And I liked the idea of having some part of my life that was not fucked up.

Dan looked at me like I was normal. Nobody looks at me like that.

[She's not going to cry.]

I miss Paul too. I'm aware his mun's got RL stuff to deal with. But that doesn't mean I don't miss him, and his stupid sappy attempts to make me smile. Who the hell still brings a woman flowers anyway?

[A half-smile, shaking her head. Then a long pause, as the smile fades.]

I don't know what you want me to do.

[She laughs and shakes her head. Not the way most people normally talk about their boss, but it's how she talks about her boss.]

It's really good to see you. I was afraid I'd scared you off or something.

Maybe we can get together sometime? I still owe you lunch. And I haven't had anything to do except - well obviously sit around and bitch. I swear there are days I wish I could change half my life.

[She's not going to get misty, but she's really overjoyed to see you, Dan.]

I know, one of the things I've always liked about you.

[She smiled almost shyly.]

You know, meeting you again made me wish I'd done things differently. That my life had turned out differently. That maybe we'd turned out differently.

Yeah? Life has a funny way of doing that to people.

[Smiles.]

What would you have done differently?

I think I would've looked more before I leaped. If I hadn't gone off trying to play hero I might still have my arm. And then a lot of things would probably be different. I lost a lot of friends after the amputation.

[Shaking her head slightly, that was a really bad time for her.]

And I wouldn't have lost your number for like a decade.

Playing hero is just who you are. You wouldn't be you if you didn't leap before looking sometimes.

Yeah, well you know me. I like living on the edge. But - it's cost me a lot too.

[She chuckled.]

I don't know. I bet you probably forgot all about me.

Sometimes the things you like most cost you the most. Sad state of life sometimes.


How about Ellen's Stardust Diner? Food, and the waitstaff sings. So lunch and entertainment.
