We've hit the tag limit, so I've merged all canon tags that had only a single entry under a range of obscure canon tags. These are sorted by genre, and include the following:

  • obscure canon: animated tv
Any animated television shows that are not anime.

  • obscure canon: anime/manga
What is says on the tin.

  • obscure canon: comics
What is says on the tin.

  • obscure canon: games
All games. These include video games, computer games, pen and paper role play games, and I'm sure a couple of board games, too.

  • obscure canon: light novels
    Japanese light novels.

  • obscure canon: movies
This includes both live action as well as animated movies.

  • obscure canon: musicals
What is says on the tin.

  • obscure canon: mythology
What is says on the tin. This one might disappear eventually, depeding how much/little it gets used.

  • obscure canon: novels
All author tags that only had one entry associated went into this one.

  • obscure canon: tv shows
These are live action only; animated is a different category.

  • obscure canon: visual novels
This one might eventually get merged with games, also depending on how much it turns out to get used.

  • obscure canon: web comics
What is says on the tin.

  • obscure canon: web phenomena
This includes things like the Something Awful fandom and characters from Hyperbole and a Half. Anything you can't really fit into any of the other categories goes in here.

  • Under the cut is a list of the canons that have been merged.

    Merged canons. )

Suggestions, comments, anything else, just leave me a tag. Happy holidays! (If you celebrate.)

THIS IS A REMINDER THAT THERE IS TO BE ABSOLUTELY NO OOC WANK IN ENTRIES OR COMMENTS.

This is a role play community. It's supposed to be entirely IC. That means you, as a mun, don't get to speak, no matter how pissed off or annoyed you are at another player. Tagging into an entry OOC to complain or address the other mun, especially in a provocative manner, is always the wrong choice, and a bannable offense depending on the level of wank you're causing.

The people affected this time around can contact [personal profile] d_m_mod in a month (after September 24) to have their accounts unbanned. In the future, if I catch anyone causing OOC wank in a post or in a comment, they will get banned permanently.

Anyone who would like to review the rules, they're on the profile page. Now, let's all get back to RPing without OOC drama, shall we?

    IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ

There have been a number of posts recently that were not addressed at the character's mun. One of the few rules of [community profile] dear_mun is that any post must be a note from the character directed at their player. Hence the name of the comm.

We don't want to be misers, but there have been too many wrongly formatted posts lately to ignore them. So from now on, if we catch a post that is anything other than a character addressing his/her/its mun, all ongoing threads and new replies will be frozen and the OP will be given 24 hours to save the post before it will be deleted.

If you want to post general role play, please use one of our open sister comms linked in the sidebar. Thank you so much for using our comm, and happy RPing!

We've combined the "canon: game of thrones" and "canon: george r.r. martin" tags into the tag "canon: a game of ice and fire." Use this tag for characters from the TV series and/or the books.

If you need the "canon: george r.r. martin" tag for posts that fall outside of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire universe, just give us the word and we'll recreate it.

    All comments are screened.

Recently, we've seen a handful of posts that are direct RP posts. That is, posts in which the characters are written as addressing other characters or engaging in action, without the characters addressing any comments to their muns. Remember that this community is for posts in which characters address their muns. If you'd like to write posts that don't meet this requirement, try a multiversal/nexus-type mingling RP comm, like our affiliate [community profile] multiverse_nexus.

You are free to RP in comments to posts, of course. Only the original post must meet the mun-addressing requirement.

Any questions, please tag in with a comment. Comments are screened.

Heads up for Prometheus character players: Even though Prometheus has been framed as more a reimagining of the Alien universe then a direct prequel to the earlier Alien films, we mods have decided not to give it a unique tag. Instead, we've added a "canon: alien/predator universe" tag. Please use that one for Prometheus characters and all other characters from Alien or Predator comics, books, movies, video games, etc.

We've just added a new tag to our character type tags: "type: fusion/amalgam."

This covers characters who are either
    a) original characters who combine characteristics of two or more canon characters and live in a universe based on one or both of their inspiration canons, or
    b) characters who are modeled after only one canon character but "live" in a canon universe different from their source canon's.

If you're playing a character called Harry Saxon-Potter, the Boy Who Died, a rash but loyal kid who regenerated when Voldemort killed him as an infant, rose to the top of his class at the Prydonian Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and who's as tempted by Voldemort's Dark Arts as he is determined to defeat them, this is the tag for you.

If you're playing John Smith, aka "The Doctor," a nosy scientific genius who roots out wrongdoing in Holmes's Victorian London with the help of his compatriot, Dame Rose, this is your tag.

If you're playing Green Hulk, a master archer who turns into a monster when he gets angry, or Bat X, a near-immortal, amnesiac Canadian who escaped from a secret government weapons program to become the vigilante guardian of Gotham City, this is also your tag.

(As a reminder, we also have these character type tags:

"type: alternate" - for player-created AU versions of canon characters (think 'what if' characters--what if Thor was a woman? What if he was the Frost Giant child instead of Loki?). High school AUs would also go here (unless the high school is a canon high school. If your teen!Thor is also going to SEED or William McKinley High School or the Gallifreyan Academy, tag him "type: fusion/amalgam")

"type: canon alternate" - for alternates that are canonical (i.e., a canonical alternate Batman from one of DC Comics' many different Earths, vamp!Willow from the Buffyverse)

"type: canon original" - for player-created characters in a canon universe (new kids attending Hogwarts, an X-Man you've created, countries that haven't officially appeared in the Hetalia manga/anime)

"type: original" - for player-created characters in player-created universes

Long and the short of it--any character whose state of being and/or universe is a mash-up of two or more canons is "fusion/amalgam." Everybody else is one of the other four.)

In which we would like to let you know that we are going to stop going through all posts and tagging canons. Up until now, we've been doing that once a day, but since we're now at the point where we have a tag for most if not all popular canons, from now on we are only going to add canon tags to posts if you comment with a tag request to the sticky mod post.

So if you want to make sure that your post gets tagged, either do it yourself, or, if the tag doesn't exist yet, drop us a tag request comment. Tagging your post is not required by comm rule, but it'll help other players find your post by tracking individual canon or game tags. To see if a tag exists, please check the list of all tags that's linked in the sidebar of the comm.

Thanks for using [community profile] dear_mun! All comments, requests, questions, please comment here. (Except tag requests; those go in the sticky mod post.) All comments are screened.

This is your mod speaking! We've got a new tag set, to go with the canon and game sets: the type set.

There are four new type tags: type: original, type: canon original, type: alternate and type: canon alternate. These tags refer to your character's type.

    • type: original should be used if your character is an OC who is not based on a pre-existing canon, as in you made up all of their backstory, their context and their environment yourself without taking recognizable elements from an existing, copyrighted canon.

    • type: canon original should be used if your character is an OC who is based on a pre-existing canon. You've got a Harry Potter OC who lives in J. K. Rowling's wizarding world but doesn't actually show up in the books? That would be a canon original character.

    • type: alternate should be used if your character is a self-created AU (alternative universe/alternative version) of a canon character. You've got Harry Potter who isn't a wizard but grew up to be an accountant with no magical powers whatsoever? He'd get a type: alternate tag.

    • type: canon alternate should be used for AUs/alternative versions of characters who show up in the franchise's canon. You play a mirror universe Spock? He would get a canon alternate tag.

This means that original characters should not use the 'canon: original' tag anymore, and should instead use the 'type: original' or 'type: canon original' tag. Thanks!
