I could name a few reasons, to begin.

[ the implications are heavy, and sif takes them into consideration. this feels similar to the stand-off before battle, but in that same vein she's not yet sure whether this woman could be considered an enemy or an ally. ]

[May's not sure she likes being liked, either. Her expression admits as much.

She sees the renewed tension in the lines of Sif's body, but does guess it for a reaction to being identified. It doesn't put her more on edge than she was.]

He speaks highly of the humans known as S.H.I.E.L.D. They and the Avengers are said to be great warriors.

You do not give mortals credit where it is due. She may seem weak, but they are so often more than meets the eye.
