There isn't a whole lot to say. I don't have any parents - they died when I was a kid. Explosion, car crash, I was the only survivor. I don't really remember any of that too well, though.

Yes yes, that much I know. Then my son was locked into your body by that dreadful mechanical creature. It was disgusting and quite disgraceful, to treat Death so.

[there's a hint of a question in her voice... she knows that that's what usually happens with Minatos, but obviously this one might be different. very different]

Minato's world shatters, but the pieces start falling into place immediately. That's why he's been so sick, isn't it?]

[Yeah, his knees are buckling. That dread that was pooling earlier has spiked, and his head feels like it's splitting. Nausea and confusion and hopelessness and horror at their worst.

He's the one Ikutsuki talked about. He's the "prince" to orchestrate the Fall. The world is going to end and it's Minato's fault.]

I-I don't...I don't know... [He didn't know anything. A hand flies to his mouth, he feels sick. Tears force their way from his eyes.]

[and still, she watches impassively, as cool as the proverbial cucumber and taking pretty much the same actions as one would-- which is to say none at all. she just watches as the human child falls-- or nearly falls-- and so very obviously suffers. still, when she speaks there remains is no real malice in her voice, though Nyx hardly sounds pleased either]

He doesn't need to know who you are or anything else you're trying to tell him. Leave him alone.

[He's far from alright. He's shaking, still crying, and his hand hasn't left his mouth. Your mom broke him, Ryoji.

But he nods in response to Nyx's questions. He understands. God, he- what the hell is he supposed to do? Why him? What the hell happened to him?]

[really, she doesn't understand why you both are being so emotional. none of this is her fault... not directly at least. it was humans who stole Thanatos from her and attempted to master death. it was their mechanical creation who so disrespectfully sealed her child in a mortal boy. it is humanity who are calling to her to fulfill her most ancient duty and bring their chapter to a close... for every beginning must have an ending, yes?

There's something called tact, and when you're answering his questions so bluntly, worrying more about where I've gone then the fact that his whole world is falling apart around him, you don't have it.

I could have explained it to him myself. All you've done is made things worse. So just leave him alone. I'll handle this on my own.

[He doesn't seem to care about her relief, meeting her eyes with barely controlled fury. Humans may have brought this upon themselves, but Minato has been nothing but kind, and doesn't deserve any of this suffering. He needs to take care of him... and he needs to do so in a place where Nyx can't get to him.]

[His shoulders heave, and he struggles to keep what little he ate earlier down. He feels dizzy and short of breath...

Everything in his mind goes white and he can no longer hear the conversation. For a moment, an apparition of Thanatos appears around him. In Minato's world, Death hasn't vanished, it's still sealed inside him - only it's taking over, using him as its only outlet.

That only lasts a moment, though. He forces his mind back to attention, trembling worse than before. He feels like he's forgotten how to breathe.]

[Ryoji stands up, heading to a spot directly between Nyx and Minato, to block her view of what is happening and shield Minato from at least any harm not caused by the reaction of Death to Nyx's presence. He isn't sure if he can do anything about it, but... maybe he can somehow direct Nyx's power to focus in on him? He doesn't really know how to do that, but it's worth a shot.]

[Without Ryoji there to support him, Minato slumps and falls over. His skin has paled to a deathly shade, and he's close to nonresponsive even after Thanatos has faded.

He can't be saved, not now, or even spared any pain. It's bad. The transformation may even speed up the longer he's in Nyx's presence. He's definitely radiating Death at a more potent level now.]

[foolish son, Nyx does not need to see what's happening to know... her senses are practically dancing with the sheer Death coming off of the ill human. she wonders if he really would change and merge with her, if he truly could take the place of Thanatos and help her bring about the Fall. how soon would it come at this rate?

in any case, no, sorry Ryoji... she's not that interested in you right now. she's going to instead be trying to use her presence to influence Minato's state, even though outwardly she's just standing there calmly.]

[Ryoji continues to glare at Nyx, but one worried glance back at Minato confirms all his worst fears, and he hurries over to his side again. He winces at the shade of Minato's skin before yelling back up at the goddess.]

Leave him alone! Whatever you're doing is just causing him more pain! That isn't right! Are you that cruel that you'll make someone's life miserable just to further your goal? Not everyone wants what you think they deserve.

[His condition is worsening rapidly in response to Nyx's will. He spasms violently, jerking and twitching as the thing locked inside him works to take over. Veins of black slowly snake up his neck.

His eyes are open, but he doesn't look like he's seeing anything. Nothing real anyway - maybe he's looking into some other world, full of horrors and nightmares. He's trying to hold on, trying to retain his humanity, but his situation is grim.]

It is not my goal so much as humanity's. Why do you seek to prevent them from achieving what they are so desperately begging for, Thanatos? It is time.

[now that it has begun, Nyx is finding she doesn't really need to expend that much effort or energy to ease Minato down the path of being the Appriser... and soon enough, her Avatar on Earth, there to bring the Fall that humanity has asked for through their feeding of Erebus. what has begun... likely can not be stopped now]

It is not time! Not everyone wishes what you think they do! They just don't understand yet that there's a way to solve problems without forcing the world to start from scratch. If you'd wait a while, good people would find a way to get the people who are wishing for this to stop.

[He rubs Minato's back, forcing back tears as he tries to hold his friend's body steady. If he can just get Nyx away, maybe they can ride this out...

No. He's wasted enough time on the sidelines. He lifts Minato off of the ground, gives Nyx one last glare, and starts to run.]

[He's heavier than a normal human should be. Much heavier...

His hands are starting to twist into claws by the time he's lifted. He's worsening rapidly - it's not stopping - and he's clearly still struggling against it. As much pain as he's in, Minato is trying to hold on, fighting this with everything he's got.

...He's probably suffering worse for his will to live.]

[she doesn't pursue the pair. even if such a thing wasn't beneath her dignity as a proud goddess, there's just simply no need to. it has begun, and there is not a corner of the earth far away enough from her now. there's not a force strong enough to stop what has been put into motion. after all, every beginning is only a beginning because there is an ending. just as night wouldn't exist without fair day, life wouldn't exist without death. it is the cycle of existence, it is destiny...

and it has begun.

and so, Nyx softly smiles. and waits]

[He's noticing he's heavier than usual. He doesn't want to transform, though, in case that will badly effect Minato, or speed up the process. There has to be a way to stop this...]

H-Hey... Minato, just keep fighting... I'll think of something. I can find a way to fix this, I promise.
