It's not that I don't appreciate what you're trying to do, but trust me, I don't need a break.

[ a small smile breaks out on her face ]

Supergirl, remember? Whatever they throw at me I can handle. Besides, there's bigger problems out there and I'd like to do what I can to make them smaller.

I've never been one for an outright break.

A change of pace however might strengthen your skills a little.

[ the last comment catches her off-guard ]

[ Sherry frowns in confusion ] What sort of skills are you talking about?

[He shrugs a bit.] Anything helpful really. I'm not entirely sure of your skill set, but I imagine your mundane will be putting you in a situation where you can put them to use.

So these "games" I keep hearing about...they're diagnostic? Something like a trial run? [ every red button on Sherry's mental radar is flashing DANGER in big, bright shiny letters ]

I guess the best way to explain it is it's another world with various situations to account for why you're there, as you won't remember your mundane. They provide challenges of various sorts and the ability for you to talk to people from other universes or even your own.

Though anything that happens to you in a game will go away when you return home.

[ studiously, Sherry takes out a notepad from the inside of her jacket and starts to jot down some quick notes, she stops when something occurs to her]

Pretty much every mildly interesting person in every universe.

[ she sighs. Naturally it's not isolated incidents. Isolated incidents would be too easy. ]

There has to be better ways for everyone to make new friends.

I would imagine so, but this situation isn't all bad. You do meet some interesting individuals and learn from them.

[ it doesn't sound terrible. not really. ] Take the best out of every situation, right?

Exactly, but never get complacent with your situation. Always try to do better.

You can call me Trilby. I work for a security organization in my own world. I wouldn't be so candid except for the fact you won't remember this in any other location.

Seems like you're pretty busy. Doesn't sound like your usual high school drama...unless it's change since I last heard about it.

I wouldn't know, I sort of skipped out on the whole high school experience. I was able to watch copies of MTV programs though, so I think I have a basic understanding.

[ she clears her throat ] I mean, I'm an agent. With the DSO.

Huh...well, never hurts to start young, right? If it helps, I didn't do much high school, either.

(He shrugs.)

Demon hunting. Not really government work, but it keeps the pizzas coming.

[ she smiles ] It does, actually.

[ "demon hunting"? sounds like something she doesn't want to dive too deeply into right now. maybe it's code? ] You're a mercenary?

Something like that...a specialized kind of mercenary. If a particular kind of problem comes along, I take care of it.

It's exactly what it sounds like, kid.

she shakes her head] Demons? That doesn't make sense. Demons don't- [ and, unwillingly, her mind returns to Raccoon. To China. ] Demons don't literally exist.

You'd be surprised.

(A pause.)

It's better to keep avoiding the literal ones; the regulars aren't the kind who'll obey a badge. Besides...it sounds like you've dealt with a few, already.

[ there's just a small shrug. ]

Breaks aren't always that bad. [ because gosh, she needs one. ]

[ a beat, and she's tossing a dryly unimpressed look around. ] Just not here. I got no idea what sort of shit is going to be pulled up here.

[ Sherry nods matter of factly ] That makes two of us. Generally speaking, I've found if something's too good to be true...it's. Well. It's not.
