I'm afraid your actual feelings on the matter have very little to do with it.

I have noticed that opinions are usually ignored by mundanes, yes. However, the law of averages indicates that it is not a guaranteed outcome. Thus, I made the attempt.

Mm. I suppose it can't hurt to try. The problem is that good stories never happen when we're given what we want.

A good story is a relative concept. Good for whom?

The reader, of course. And often the writer as well in this particular medium. Stories are defined by tension and conflict. Without it, there's no story, and no reason to read or write. And we can't exist without that.

I cannot argue with that statement.

I also suspect that I am too... 'new' to this environment to expect mundanes to respect the fact that I have things that I must do, which do not include providing a story.

And see, there's the rub. You might think your job doesn't include providing a story, but in fact that's the entirety of your purpose here. The things you have to do are going to be kept out of reach for the sake of "plot", I'm afraid.

I doubt it's much of a consolation, but you do get used to this sort of thing eventually. I can guarantee it'll be a hell of a journey, and you'll meet all sorts of interesting characters along the way. Literally!

What does it change?

It's hard to put into words, but it's a really wonderful feeling. Like I could do anything at all as long as he's with me.

A kind of euphoria?

[A nod] Maybe something like that, but permanent. And even more than that, I know that I have someone I can always trust and rely on, someone that I can turn to at any moment. Being in love is wonderful, but beyond that fuzzy feeling, I love just having him near me as my friend.
